SMNC’s Maple Sugar Festival Weekend celebrates the best thing to come out of this winter!

4 Mar

If you’re anything like us, you’re probably fed-the-heck-up with this winter. Scraping your car windows, plowing the driveway, wiping out on icy walkways, spine-tingling cold, traffic jams . . . ugh, it all just sucks. Okay, well, not all of it. See, while we’ve been freezing our butts off, the beautiful maple trees at Stamford Museum and Nature Center were hard at work producing the sweet, sweet goodness we all love to pour on our pancakes on snowy Sunday mornings. Yep, we’re talking about the nectar of the gods better known as maple syrup, and you can celebrate it in all it’s glory at their Maple Sugar Festival Weekend on March 7 and March 8 at Stamford Museum & Nature Center. The activities go on from 11AM – 3PM both days, and with tickets costing just $5 for members or $10 for non-members, there’s plenty to get your money’s worth:

Chocolate, Wine & Food Lovers Evening 2015 Sweet Deets + Ticket Giveaway

19 Jan

Valentine’s Day is just around the corner and, you know what that means: yup, time for the annual Chocolate, Wine, & Food Lovers Evening! This year it’s going down on 2/5 from 6-9 at The Marriott Hotel & Spa in Stamford. This event has been held as a way to not only help people find the best drinks, food, and desserts in Fairfield County, but to also give attendees a chance to pick up some great gifts at the Valentine Boutique or via silent auctions. But, the real heart of the event is the cause: 100% of the proceeds go directly to Shelter for the Homeless, a Stamford-based organizaton that serves Lower Fairfield County by “[P]roviding temporary housing to homeless men, striving to obtain permanent supportive housing and services for men and women tailored  to meet their relevant needs, and empowering people to help themselves achieve their greatest level of self-sufficiency.”

Last year was so much fun, we talked with so many great people, ate so much great food and tried out so many new restaurants, drinks, chocolates, and cupcakes that it was well worth it. Tickets are just $60 and can be bought here, by calling (203) 406-0017, or online/at the door for $70 after 2/4.

Chilifest Returns to Westport! Get the Fiery Deets Here!

11 Dec

Chilifest 2014

Back when we started our blog, we were around for the first ever Chilifest! At first it was created as an off-shoot of the very successful Chowdafest, run by Jim Keenan. When we went, we had a great time and tasted some awesome chili. One of the things we remember the most, though, is that during the time of stuffing our faces how much snow fell down, crippling power lines and the drive home. But, hey, we were fed, we were warm, we were full: we didn’t care!

Paint Your Own Masterpiece at Shebeen Brewing While Drinking Some Brewskis

12 Nov

Over the past few years, CT has seen a major influx of art studios, but they aren’t what you’d think of as typical studios. Instead, these new businesses like Pinot’s Palette in Stamford and Muse Paintbar in Norwalk are focused on two hour sessions that get people (anywhere from novice to expert) painting. For each class, there is a different painting that the teacher takes you through, showing you how to paint it. As you paint, you get to talk with friends, meet new people, and (yes, it’s true) drink your favorite wine, beer, or cocktails.
