Finally, after a tiny hibernation, the Westport Farmers’ Market is back! This not only marks a decade of back to back warm-air markets, but it also highlights their focus on keeping things local. It all began back in June 2006 when Paul Newman and Michel Nischan (he just received a James Beard Award for Humanitarian of the Year last night) started Westport Farmers’ Market.

Ease into Fall w/ Fairfield County Farm Workshops, Dinners, and Events

3 Sep

Farms are what keep us rooted to our humble beginnings, they keep us in touch with nature…farms are what keep us alive.  And, while most people probably only have surface level interactions with farms by purchasing their foods at stores or getting a bit closer to the source by visiting farmers’ markets, farms have lots going on behind the scenes.  The sowing, the planting, the watering, the manicuring, and the picking.  And, there are plant-y of other things going on at farms, depending on the season.

So, this is where we leave you:  some great events, workshops, and dinners at farms in September and October for you to dig.

Do you know what’s frustrating?  Wanting to eat healthy, fresh, and local food, but rarely having a chance to get any.  Sure, there are plenty of farms nearby, but most of them take an hour or so to get there.  And, yes, there are lots of farmers’ markets, but many of them don’t fit in with work schedules.  So, isn’t it awesome that there’s a company like Fresh Nation that sends out your own personal shopper to get you all you need… and then delivers it right to your house?

Can't make WFM? Get it delivered!

Can’t make WFM on Thursdays? Set up delivery!

Yeah, it’s a pretty awesome way to keep eating and supporting local food providers, without putting a huge wrench in your busy schedule.  Right now Fresh Nation is focused on Fairfield (they just recently added Westport Farmers’ Market!) and Westchester County and has recently expanded out into parts of Los Angeles, too.

So, to get you started (and hooked no doubt) on this farm-to-kitchen delivery service, we’ve teamed up with Fresh Nation to give you an OmNomCT EXCLUSIVE offer (oh you fancy, huh?). Chef Bick Plans Farm to Table Feast for Fall Harvest at Holbrook Farm – 10/14 in Bethel, CT

28 Sep

When we met up with Alicia and Renato Ghio this past May at Holbrook Farm for a farm to table dinner, we knew we were in for something amazing.  Well, for one thing it was ON a farm, the beautiful Holbrook Farm.  It doesn’t get much more farm to table than that, does it?  But, we were also amazed at how fresh, how flavorful, and how well Executive Chef Michael Bick and co. from Some Things Fishy Catering put the meal together.  We enjoyed the refreshments, the appetizers that were passed around, and all the courses that were set before us.  As always, it was great to hang with Alicia and Renato, but it was also cool to talk with the people around us…and find out that we were sitting right next to Fairfield County Foodie!

Well, Chef Bick is back for some more at Holbrook Farm in Bethel.  He’s planned a farm to table dinner on October 14, starting at 4 pm, for $65.  It’s BYOB, so you best believe we’re breaking out the Dom…or Bud Light.  Heresy!  You’ll notice after looking at the menu that the menu focuses in on what’s just been harvested and what’s in season.  Huh, is that what they mean by farm to table? :P  Take a look at this menu and you’ll be pining over the dishes and will be having dreams about them.  If you live south of Bethel, you’ll enjoy one of the most beautiful drives…especially during fall time.  Make your reservations online now, e-mail Chef Bick, or call him at (203) 722-2444.  These tickets are hot and will go faster than Honey Boo Boo Child’s 15 minutes of fame.
