Pub Fest, Barnum Sails the Sound, + More Part of 2013 Barnum Festival in Bridgeport

30 May

Ladies and gentlemen, children of all ages…welcome to the greatest…er…pub fest on Earth!  Well, er…maybe just the ladies and gents, no children wanted here at Pub Fest, part of the 2013 Barnum Festival in Bridgeport.  Started in 1949, the annual Barnum Festival has brought Bridgeport together with various events around the community.  And, part of this year’s festivities just happens to be Pub Fest.  When you buy your passport for just $20, you’ll get access to a “light” buffet (but, it’s a buffet aka pig out), discounted drinks (especially “Ringmaster Red), and free entrance to see Bill Genaurio and Destiny at the Bijou Theatre.  Pub Fest 2013 goes down on 6/7 from 5:30-8 with the live music going on from 7-11 pm.  Get your passport at any of the pubs/restaurants listed below or at Barnum Festival HQ at The Holiday Inn on 1070 Main Street in Bridgeport.

Here are all the places you’ll get entrance to:

Georgetown Day brings community together through food, fun, and music

28 May

Georgetown Day becomes bigger and better every year, picture from http://georgetownct.org

The village of Georgetown is nestled right where Redding, Weston, Wilton, and Ridgefield meet.  One of our favorite restaurants in the area is Bistro 7, a farm to table restaurant that has been pulling in some rave reviews (like ours and Local Food Rocks).  And, one of the restaurants who will be providing food this year, Luca Ristorante Italiano, is another on our must-eat list.  But, believe it or not, there’s more to life and a village than just food.  Yes, that’s hard to believe, especially coming from two food bloggers.  So, let’s tell you a bit about Georgetown Day, this year on June 9 from 4-10 pm on Main Street.  Don’t worry, we’ll talk about the food, too…

The Chefs at The Chef's Challenge 2012 at Stamford Museum & Nature Center

The Chefs at The Chef’s Challenge 2012 at Stamford Museum & Nature Center

UPDATE:  OmNomCT will be guest judges for the Chef’s Challenge, so make sure to stop on by, eat up, and say hi!

A tradition in the Del Ferraro household is hitting up Maple Sugar Weekend at Stamford Museum & Nature Center.  It’s a tradition that we’re not willing to part with and it’s something that we look forward to every single year.  Really…we’re talking about a weekend long ode to real maple syrup here.  It is what fuels our weekends and brightens our mornings.  We’re talking ’bout the real stuff…no fake syrups with weird flavoring.  Maple syrup:  pure, rich, sweet, oh so good.

Just a brief refresher course:

You can come by Saturday (3/2), Sunday (3/3), or both days!  Tickets are $5 for members, $10 for non-members.  Family Plus members or above and children 3 and under are free.  Buy at SM&NC or make things speedy by buying tix online for 3/2 or 3/3.

Cooking up Fun at Family Farm Fridays – Stamford Museum and Nature Center

13 Apr

Please mommy, can we see the otters and go to Family Farm Friday?

It’s pretty clear from our previous posts how much we love going to The Stamford Museum and Nature Center.  There are fun events like Maple Sugar Fest Weekend and the Model Ts to Mustangs car show, they have rotating exhibits on display, they have lots of animals to fawn over, and they have Family Farm Fridays.  Listen to this little bit of awesomeness:

Starting Friday, May 4 until June 15 (no class on 6/1, be careful)

4-5 PM

Aw, we have the same hair color!

You’ll be able to check out the garden (that’s right by the pigs) and explore the farm.  You’ll learn about the different crops and herbs being produced  locally and will be able to create fun food.  SM&NC recommends this event for children 6 and older, but they certainly welcome young children too.  Members pay just $5 per class, and non-members pay only $8 per class.  Be sure to make your reservations because class size is limited.

Classes and Descriptions (from their FB page)

May 4 – Eggs & Chickens – visit with chickens & help collect eggs
May 11 – Woolly Workshop – work with wool from start to finish, meet sheep
May 18 – Planting a Salad – plant veggie seeds for salad and help make salad to try
May 25 – Salsa & Pesto – visit our garden & make some fresh salsa & pesto to take home
June 8 – Pickles & Pumpkin Seeds – make pickles & plant pumpkin seeds for fall (to take home)
June 15 – Butter & Cheese Making – make your own butter & learn a quick cheesemaking recipe

If you’re a nature lover, hiker, animal lover, have a family, or enjoy museums then SM&NC is the perfect place to have a membership.  Join by clicking here.

Baseball, Desserts, Plays, Restaurant Deals and more with What’s Cooking in Bridgeport CT

13 Apr

Add this to your checklist NOW!

Not all restaurant weeks are built the same.  Case in point:  What’s Cooking in Bridgeport 2012.  Not only will you get many chances at great deals with prix fixe meals, but you’ll also get to take part in fun entertainment and arts activities.  Checking out a Bridgeport Bluefish game is a must, btw.  That pesky B.B. the Bluefish squirted me in the crotch with a water gun the last time we were there.  Anywho, get ready for the action from May 14-20.  Just a sidenote, we used to live in Black Rock, and miss living out there.  This week will be a great reminder of why we love the Bridgeport/Black Rock area so much.  Follow What’s Cooking in Bridgeport on Twitter at @whatscookingbpt or on their Facebook page for updates on events and check back here, too.
