Black Rock Farmers' Market 2015

This Saturday, June 20, marks the second year that The Black Rock Farmer’s Market hits that sweet spot between Fairfield and Bridgeport. Just a primer: BRFM is held every Saturday from 9-1 at the field adjacent to St. Ann Church on 481 Brewster Street all the way up until October 17. And, it’s definitely more than your typical market with special artisan markets on the last Saturday of every month, talks, cooking demos, activities, and more.

Here’s some more info to get you there, week after week:

Westport Farmers' Market poster_summer15

Finally, after a tiny hibernation, the Westport Farmers’ Market is back! This not only marks a decade of back to back warm-air markets, but it also highlights their focus on keeping things local. It all began back in June 2006 when Paul Newman and Michel Nischan (he just received a James Beard Award for Humanitarian of the Year last night) started Westport Farmers’ Market.

Black Rock Farmers’ Market Sprouts up on Saturdays in CT

The Black Rock Farmers' Market opens this Saturday, 6/7

The Black Rock Farmers’ Market opens this Saturday, 6/7

Access to good, fresh, and healthy food shouldn’t be a privilege, affordable and available to only a select few.  Everyone, no matter where they live, should be able to get produce, meats, and products from local farms and producers.  Not only are these products fresher and fuller of nutrients and vitamins, they are also the solution to our preservative-heavy and pre-frozen society.  Plus, something we love is that by supporting local farmers and producers at these markets, you are supporting local and helping families to make dreams come true…not just helping a CEO afford another McMansion.

So, we’re very excited for Black Rock (that awesome spot between Bridgeport and Fairfield that we called home) because starting this Saturday (and until 10/25), they’ll have their own farmers’ market.  Yup, just come by 481 Brewster Street (right next to St. Ann Church) from 9 to 1 pm on Saturdays and you’ll be able to check out these great farms and products:

Pop Shop Market Fairfield CT

You might have heard of pop up restaurants, springing up in empty spots or abandoned places.  Here one week, gone another.  You know…that’s so 2012.  PopShop Market, though, is taking things into 2013 with their pop up market.  For each pop up event they’ll have 50 or more vendors, a mini farmers’ market, they’ll feature a local brewery, and they’ll have a bunch of CT’s best food and food trucks available for your noming needs.  The first PopShop Market is being held on June 1 from 9-3 at the Fairfield Theater Company‘s warehouse and parking lot.  There’s no cost at all and there is live music, too.  Here are the details for the first event:

#FF Gets New Meaning: Friday Farm Market @ Stamford Museum and Nature Center–Stamford, CT

13 May

Update:  things are a bit different for this year’s (2012) Friday Farm Market.  Check it out here.

Two things of awesomeness:

1)  Stamford Museum & Nature Center will be hosting a “Friday Farm Market” from June 10 until October 28.  The Friday Farm Market will take place at SM&NC‘s upper parking lot off of Scofieldtown Road.  What will be for sale?  On their FB page, they say: ” The SM&NC Friday Farm Market will feature Connecticut farmers and vendors with agricultural, horticultural, and food items that they have grown, produced, or processed.”  Here’s some info on New Canaan’s Farmer’s Market!

10 am – 2 pm

Wave Hill Bread–>  Breads, pastries, cookies

Newgate Farms–>  Fruits, vegetables, plants, flowers, and baked goods

Dream Desserts–>  Desserts, duh

Walking Wood Farm–>  Eggs

Moorefield Herb Farm–>  Herbs

Smith Acres–>  Fruits and vegetables

Farming 101–>  Heirloom tomatoes

Truelove Farms–>  Eggs, pork, and beef

Sounds good to us!  Go local, go green, get shopping!

2) Spring on the Farm:  a special kick off and preview of Friday Farm Market this Sunday, May 15, from 11-4.  The sheep will get sheared and you can see how that wool gets turned into yarn.  Also on their FB page: “There will be activities for all ages including storytelling, face painting, crafts, a plant and herb sale, and more! We’ll have refreshments for sale, hayride tickets for purchase, and our galleries will be open.”

Sorry, we cannot condone any sheep or farm animal jokes in this post.
