Do you know what’s frustrating?  Wanting to eat healthy, fresh, and local food, but rarely having a chance to get any.  Sure, there are plenty of farms nearby, but most of them take an hour or so to get there.  And, yes, there are lots of farmers’ markets, but many of them don’t fit in with work schedules.  So, isn’t it awesome that there’s a company like Fresh Nation that sends out your own personal shopper to get you all you need… and then delivers it right to your house?

Can't make WFM? Get it delivered!

Can’t make WFM on Thursdays? Set up delivery!

Yeah, it’s a pretty awesome way to keep eating and supporting local food providers, without putting a huge wrench in your busy schedule.  Right now Fresh Nation is focused on Fairfield (they just recently added Westport Farmers’ Market!) and Westchester County and has recently expanded out into parts of Los Angeles, too.

So, to get you started (and hooked no doubt) on this farm-to-kitchen delivery service, we’ve teamed up with Fresh Nation to give you an OmNomCT EXCLUSIVE offer (oh you fancy, huh?). Not only will you get 10% off your purchase, but you’ll also get free delivery.  And, ya know what’s even better?  This deal is always available as long as you keep buying by clicking through the link in this post, or on our side button to the right.  Yep, so you’ll get the deal again, and again, and again, and… well, you get the picture.

To Do: Friday Farmers’ Markets at Jones Winery All Summer Long

1 Jul

Friday’s already a pretty awesome day, but Jones Family Farms and Winery are making it more awesomerest!  Yeah, this is how it’s going down:

Each Friday from 3:30-6:30, starting July 5 and going until the end of August, there will be a Jones Farmers’ Market right outside their Harvest Kitchen Courtyard.  If you’ve never been to Jones Winery, that’s actually right across from where they have their wine and do the tastings.  There will be all kind of fresh veggies, honey, cheeses, breads, fruits, and other great food from local Connecticut farms available.    The farmers from Jones will be at hand, and you’ll also be able to check out Stone Gardens (you can order a chicken for pick up the following week), and These Things Take Thyme Farm (the best name ever, right?).  Also, you’ll have some freshly made food right from their Harvest Kitchen or from Liquid Lunch!

To kick all of this off, Jones will be turning the July 5 market Red, White, and Blue.  Yes, you know it…the best of their blueberries and their strawberries, ready for you!  There will also be a wine tasting that will help raise money for Spooner House.  Also on hand for the July 5 market will be Bring the Hoopla and Stockbridges with killer cheesecake.

Make sure you take advantage of Jones Winery being open until 6:30 on these days by doing a tasting or getting a glass to start the weekend.  And, even if it’s raining, the market will still go on, but they’ll just move it into their barn.  Cheers.

Regularly Updated List, Dates, and Info for Fairfield County Farmers’ Markets in Connecticut

Farmer Joe, dishing out fresh veggies at the New Canaan Farmers’ Market

We are huge supporters of farmers’ markets for many reasons.  First of all, you help support local farmers and artisans.  Secondly, well, the food just tastes better!  Thirdly, it’s so much fun to meet people who pour their heart and soul into their living.  You know, you’ll be able to find whatever your heart desires at one of these spots:  bread, herbs, cookies, cupcakes, lobster rolls, fresh pasta, veggies, fruits, meat and even hot sauce.  We thought about putting together a decent list of farmers’ markets in Fairfield County, but we quickly found that info was outdated and had to be hunted down from multiple sites.  So, we pulled together a ton of info and put it in a list that we’ll update often, from month to month, year to year, so keep this bookmarked.  If you have a farmers’ market that you go to that’s not on here, let us know.

Hear that, Omnomivores?  Hot buttered lobster, fresh and local, in a truck!

Yeah, you like that, don’t ya?  ;)  We know who’s checking out the Rowayton Farmers’ Market on Friday…you!  LobsterCraft has run some private parties and events and is soon to open to a more permanent spot somewhere in Fairfield, CT.  When we get more info, we’ll let you know about their location and their site.  We do know they’ll have a gourmet buttered hot lobster rolls of many kinds:  Plain, Spicy, Californian, and the Famous LBLT.  So, check them out and check out all the other vendors because it’s not all about lobster…well, who are we kidding?  It’s always about the lobster.  Well, it’s also about Sticky-Nuts, and they’ll be there, too.
