Step Out for Stepping Stones with Wine, Brews, and Bites

14 May

Update:  unfortunately, Step Out has been postponed.  We’ll give you more info when we get a new date.

Stepping Stones Museum for Children in Norwalk is a fun place to be, especially if you’re a kid…or a kid at heart.  They have an amazing amount of exhibits for children all the way from birth to 7 and up, they provide educational classes, they are always up to something new like Dinosaur Revolution, they have tons of events, and they are a favorite stop for schools.  Fun like this isn’t easy to provide, so that’s why Stepping Stones is holding their 8th Annual Step Out Wine & Food Tasting fundraiser.  This vital (and tasty) event is being held in partnership with our friends over at the Young Professionals Network of the Business Council of Fairfield County.  Here are all the details for you:

Dishcrawl Greenwich June Event Highlights Old Greenwich

22 Apr

It’s no surprise that we’re very excited about Dishcrawl’s debut in Greenwich.  Maybe we’re too excited.  One of our Twitter friends, Velda, asked if we worked for Dishcrawl.  No, we don’t work for them, but we like what they stand for.  After we ran a contest together and gave away a $100 Ginger Man Greenwich gift certificate, we talked with the Dishcrawl Greenwich organizer for a bit.  Jesse was so very amazed with the overwhelming demand for Dishcrawl.  The first event sold out very quickly, then the second event sold out just a while after it was announced.  But, still, people wanted to be put on a waiting list to get their chance at having their own Dishcrawl experience.

Viva la blood orange margarita

We’re happy to share that Dishcrawl Greenwich has already announced their third event, set for June 11 at 7 pm.  Just buy your tix at $45 each by going to the Dishcrawl Greenwich June 11 event page.  After you buy your tix, you’ll get an e-mail 48 hours before the event.  They’ll tell you where you’re meeting to start your Dishcrawl of four local Greenwich restaurants.  This is perhaps one of the greatest parts of the culinary tours:  the element of surprise.  You won’t know where you’re eating, what you’re eating, or even who you’re meeting until you actually sit down at your next stop.

4th Annual Hops & Grapes Toasts & Tastes Event to Raise Funds for LLS

12 Mar

Last year we checked out Hops & Grapes Toasts & Tastes and had such a great time.  There was great food galore from restaurants across Fairfield County with plenty of beer and wine to try.  This year on 4/12 from 7:30-10:30 we can expect the fourth annual Hops & Grapes Toasts & Tastes to be even better as it moves into its new location:  the Stamford Innovation Center in the heart of downtown.  There will be plenty of room to mingle at this classic landmark building…and plenty of room to get your tastebuds tingling, too.  In addition to the Scallops with sunchoke puree and caper-raisin-pinenut vinaigrette at Bar Sugo Norwalkrestaurants, caterers, cheesemongers, and bakeries, there will also be drinks and representation from breweries.  When you’re in between drinks and courses, be sure to check out the great silent auctions that will be available (follow them on FB for early previews of what will be up for auction).  Finally, if you stick around towards the end, you can take part in the live auction with amazing trips, gifts, and packages.  We are also very proud and excited to be one of the media sponsors for this amazing event that raises vital money for The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society that fights leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin’s disease and myeloma.

Tickets are $75 each or are $125 for a pair.  Also, you may order VIP tickets for $100 each or $175 for a pair which includes a VIP gift bag, a raffle ticket, and a LLS wristband.  You can also donate if you can’t make it or even purchase an ad to be played during the slideshow.  As of now, these are the hops, grapes, and tastes that you can toast to:

22 Sep

Fall is one of our favorite seasons.  Yeah, we know, there’s only four to choose from, but it’s in the top four most definitely.  You’ve got perfect weather, nature’s colors explode, there is always so much to do, and it’s harvest time.  Yes, this is the time when all your favorite pumpkin beers come out, when you drink cider again (hard or regular), and when you crave that slice of pumpkin pie.  Well, we’ve got another great way for you to enjoy fall:  a harvest season party with food, wine, and beer at Stew Leonard’s Wines and Spirits of Norwalk to raise money for The Exchange Club.

There will be over 65 different wines and beers available for tasting that you can try along with some great seasonal food.  Tickets are just $40 and, as mentioned, go to help The Exchange Club that will use the money to benefit local community organizations and Stew Leonard III Children’s Charities.  Just come by on Thursday, 10/18 from 6 pm to 8 pm and celebrate.

Fun-raiser: Wild Wine, Beer + Food Safari 2012 @ The Beardsley Zoo – Bridgeport, CT

19 May

*-*

Update:  2014 tix are now on sale!

Isn’t that just the cutest picture you’ve ever seen?  Is he holding up the wine to observe the color before he swishes it around?  Is he raising it as a toast to all animals at Connecticut’s Beardsley Zoo in Bridgeport?  Or, is he ready to down some of the good red stuff?  Well, I guess he could be doing all three.  Maybe he’s just raising a glass to you for coming along to Connecticut’s Beardsley Zoo‘s Wild Wine, Beer & Food Safari on June 2 from 6-9 pm.  He doesn’t have any pockets, but he’ll be asking for $55 online (buy here), $50 for groups of 4 or more, or $60 at the event…if he hasn’t sold all of his tickets.

This will be one wild tasting event to be a part of.  Connecticut’s Beardsley Zoo will have fun stations where you can get your grub on such as drinks from Wine Emporium of Shelton, as well as local restaurants and caterers.  Because there is alcohol there, you must be 21+ to enter.  Oh, there is more, though, for our fur loving friends.  There will be live entertainment and you’ll have a chance to prance and stomp around Connecticut’s Beardsley Zoo to check out all the animals.  Also, put your bid down on some silent auctions like a trip to The Cape, signed sports goodies, theater tickets, beauty packages, and more.  All proceeds from this fundraiser will help the Connecticut’s Beardsley Zoo‘s operation, its growth, its educational programs, and its conservation initiatives.

Lidia Bastianich Coming to Stamford Fairway for WNET Fundraiser with Wine and Food Tastings

24 Oct

Lidia's Italy in America, from wliw.org

My mom’s gonna be so jealous.  Yeah, Lidia Bastianich is coming to Stamford’s Fairway Market on November 5, 2011.  The same Lidia who hosts Lidia Cooks from the Heart of Italy, founder of Bastianich Winery, pasta and sauce maker, and the owner of four restaurants in NYC.  Both Fairway and Lidia have joined foodie forces to help support WNET, providing CT and NY with great programming through THIRTEEN and WLIW21.  The fundraising part will take place at Fairway Wines & Spirits on Friday and Saturday, 11/4-11/5.  Fairway will be donating 10% of their profits from their amazing selection of wine, liquor, and especially beer.  Think we’ll have to pick up some Delirium Tremens, some Rogue Ales, or some Caduceus Vineyards wine while we’re there.

That’s not it, either.  There will be wine tastings going on so you’ll be able to try Lidia’s wine either Friday or Saturday.

Ok, now for the food-crazed fans of Lidia:  she’ll be appearing Saturday to sign her books Lidia’s Italy in America and Nonna Tell Me a Story:  Lidia’s Christmas Kitchen and she’ll be signing her wine bottles, too.

Ok, and now just for the food-crazed people.  There will be tons of free samples of her pasta, her sauces, and some of Fairway’s best food specials for fall.

Make sure you leave early to come to Fairway because we have a feeling this will pack up the store more than it was at its opening.  Ciao,  a presto!
