Crazy Good Comfort Food @ New Magee’s Curbside Mobile Food Truck

4 Oct

20161004_130804

You need some of this in your life . . . and face. All of it in your face.

Comfort food, you’ve met your match. Well, technically, you’ve met your match when Magee’s Curbside opened up at 72 Magee Avenue. We recently had a chance to go and check them out and came out impressed after a brunch that featured some great dishes.

So, imagine how excited (and torn we were) when we stopped by Indeed Stamford today and saw The Brunch Box, Hapa Food Truck, and Magee’s Curbside’s new (two weeks new) truck! Priorities of  just getting Hapa changed (we still got Hapa too, don’t worry) because, well, what kind of bloggers would we be if we didn’t try out the new truck? Right? Right. Continue reading

Chief Brody’s Banh Mi Truck + Jason Sobocinski Sock it to Homelessness

9 Oct

As a continuation of his Guest Chef Series, Chef Greg Martell from Chief Brody’s Banh Mi food truck will be teaming up with Chef Jason Sobocinski from Caseus in New Haven and Black Hog. They’ll be manning the food truck together on October 15 from 11-3 at the corner of York and Chapel. At that time they will not only be serving up their regular awesome menu, but will also have a special Banh Mi from the food-genius mind of Jason Sobocinski. But, this isn’t the first time these two chefs have worked together, oh no. Martell actually used to work the Caseus food truck!

Oh, and there’s an extra incentive to order that special sandwich: Chief Brody’s will donate $2 from every purchase to Columbus House Inc. who serves the homeless and those in risk of being homeless. In addition, they will be a Sock Drive going down. Just bring a pair of new socks in and you’ll be entered to win some great swag from Caseus, Ordinary, Black Hog, and Chief Brody’s.

Wicked Fresh: Preview Boothbay Lobster Company at Pinot’s Palette – Stamford, CT

Pinot's Palette and Boothbay Lobster Company

Fairfield County can be funny at times. We’re a county with a beautiful shoreline, but when you’re searching for seafood restaurants along that shoreline, only a few good options come to mind with the rest serving mediocre fried food or from frozen flops. So, when we went to Paloma a few months back and saw a sign for Boothbay Lobster Company, we were just a bit excited. Really? we thought . . . the possibility of some great seafood right by the water? Continue reading

Hog Water IPA + Disco Pig 2.1 Release at Black Hog Brewing 1 Yeariversary

22 Aug

Has it been one year already? It’s pure craziness, but yes, it has. But, with the brews that Black Hog Brewing in Oxford are putting out, you’d never guess that. Their distribution has increased, they’re putting out a big variety, and they’ve quickly cemented themselves into the CT Beer Scene. So, they are celebrating that yeariversary with a party full of brand new beer releases and The Green Grunion Food Truck.

Black Hog Brewing in Oxford, CTJust come on down to Black Hog from 12-5 and partake in the awesomeness. They’ll have their brand new IPA that we’ve heard so many great things about: Hog Water. And, they’ll also have their Disco Pig 2.1, that’s a Brett Golden Sour that’s been aged in Cabernet Franc barrels.

The event costs nothing, but you’ll want to make sure to bring cash or have your card ready to get some of the killer food that Green Grunion is serving up and to take home some of those new brews and some swag from Black Hog.

The Meat Truck Chomps Down on New Haven and Sets Paws on Fairfield County

23 Jul

There are days when we want to go light, there are days when you might mix a little light with something heavier.  Then again, there are days when you break out into a hardcore, primal, carnivorous rage and take down meaty dish after meaty dish.

So, Jose Perez did like any American, food (and fun)-loving person would do:  he decided to open up a food truck:  The Meat Truck to be exact.  Their first launch was on July 4 weekend and they sold out of all their food on that day. If  that’s any indiction of their future success, then we think they’ll do very nicely.  While we haven’t had a chance to try the food yet, we did snag an interview with Jose to let you know more about what you can look forward to when The Meat Truck hits up Fairfield and New Haven Counties.

What gave you the inspiration to start a food truck?

Burger month?  Pssshh, what Bounty Food Truck and its three owners have in store for you will make every single day burger day and have you quivering, falling to your knees in praise of the burger gods.  This, all from a brand new food truck that’s just entered into its first full-time week traveling around Westport.  The owners, James Edkins, Chris Vacca, and Christiaan Rizy, all from the Westport/Wilton area, are ready to make your mornings, days, and maybe even nights a little better.

The Chef:  Chris Vacca

Like any great food truck, it all starts with a talented chef who’s manning the grill, coming up with great menu choices, and pumps out awesome food quickly.  And, you could say Chef Chris Vacca has been around the kitchen a bit…22 years, actually.  Not only is he a graduate of the CIA, he has also traveled the world, and worked in culinary meccas like NYC (Park Avenue Cafe, Le Madri, Il Toscanaccio), Napa (Cantinetta Piero), Italy (Antica Trattoria San Lorenzo), and other European spots like Switzerland (Giradet), and he also owns Trevi Trattoria in Wantagh, NY.  He has worked at Michelin-starred restaurants and also has local connections, recently consulting at Zaza in Scarsdale and 323 Restaurant in Westport.  By his side are James Edkins and Christiaan Rizy who help run the food truck, offer up guidance, resources, business planning, organization, and help in growing the food truck into an even more successful business.  Bounty Food Truck all began because they loved seeing the mobile food truck scene thriving in NY and thought, hey, we can do that.  And do that they are…

Valencia Luncheria Food Truck Brings Arepas, Burritos, and More to CT!

1 May

Chef Michael Young has been a busy boy.  First he got the Bodega Food Truck up and running and now he’s putting the finishing touches on the Valencia Luncheria Food Truck.  Holy crap, yes, it’s true.  Valencia + food truck = DA BOMB!

The food truck serves two purposes:

1)  It’s an easy way for Valencia to cater parties and events.

2)  It’s an easy way for your to get your Valencia fix when you’re not near their Norwalk spot.

Starting off, they will are offering arepas, burritos, salads, and a few other options.  As they go out and make food, they’ll tweak and change the menu if need be.  Their plans right now are to hit up Landmark Square/Vets Park in Stamford two days a week, so get ready!  And, they will certainly be hitting up other spots around Fairfield County, too, so make sure that you’re following them on Facebook, and Twitter.

For more information about hiring Valencia for catering or parties, please call ’em up at (203) 453-5928.

Cool Beans: The Buzz Truck Set to Percolate, Caffeinate + Feed the Masses

8 Apr

Update:  The Buzz Truck is running and fully caffeinated!

Mornings, afternoons, or whenever you wake up from your late night out just got a helluva lot better.  That’s ‘cuz we’ve got a brand new food truck that’s ready to hit up the streets of Fairfield County called The Buzz Truck.  Run by husband and wife team Alex and Jess Grutkowski, The Buzz Truck is nearly ready to get us buzzing with caffeine and fill us up with some awesome local baked goods.  We think their new food truck will fill a major void in Fairfield County and will round out events perfectly.  So, let’s hear a little bit from Jess about how The Buzz Truck came to be, what drinks and food they’ll feature, where they plan to be stopping and setting up shop, and what their plans for the future are.

Where did the idea for The Buzz Truck come from?

The idea came about organically, just from being a coffee lover and a mom short on time. My husband Alex and I both have a corporate background (online advertising and public relations, respectively). We always knew that someday we would start our own business, but it took some time to come up with the right idea. We thought about children’s parties, the Community Theater in Fairfield, mini golf, but nothing was “just right.”

I was always late to pick up my girls from nursery school at Earthplace…it was kind of embarrassing. But my friends and I would always cover for each other when we were late to pick up, especially since some of us drove from Fairfield and would get stuck on the highway or behind school buses.

I remember being in line one day watching the clock – slightly panicking – and the only guy in front of me pulls out a piece of paper and starts reading off orders…”One sugar, free, non-fat, vanilla latte, extra hot 190 degrees, not a ton of foam.” I was left to choose:  be late again or ditch the line and forego coffee all together.

Then the idea hit me. Why isn’t there an ice cream truck, but for grown-ups, with coffee? Even the name, The Buzz Truck, came to me at that moment. I could drive to the nursery school at pick-up time and the moms and staff could get coffee or tea, kids snacks and drinks.
