LaRocca’s Country Market Expands and Reopens – Stamford, CT

30 Jun

The finishing touches…from LaRocca’s Country Market

Back in 1925, Giovanni’s Country Market on Old Long Ridge Road began its long run as a go to destination for North Stamfordites.  They’d stop in for fresh produce, meat, seafood, and hard to find gourmet items.  Turns out, they’ve been working hard on updates, remodeling, and, well…changing their name.  You probably guessed the  name:  LaRocca’s Country Market.

Expect to see a gourmet deli, organic produce, sushi, freshly made pasta, freshly caught wild fish, and everything else you’d look for at a grocery store.  In addition, you’ll be able to find lots of prepared foods to go.  Catch them today, June 30, and they will have samples of free food so you can try out all that LaRocca’s Country Market has to offer.  They are also saying that there will be a surprise guest.  Hmmm…Santa? :)

As a special for the opening, you can get 20% off your purchase.  You should sign up for their e-mail list by visiting their site to get more deals and coupons like this.  Plus, check out their weekly deals and specials.  Just because we love you, we’ve included both in this post.

Giacomo’s Springdale Market Now Open: 10 Reasons to Try! Stamford, CT

21 Dec

Back in May we told you all about our favorite spot to pick up a breakfast sandwich:  Giacomo’s Italian Deli.  The bacon, egg, and cheese there on Terra Nova is just wicked, wicked good.  Well, Jack Delli Carpini (the owner) told us about his plans to open up shop next door after the dry cleaning business had moved out.

We’d wait in anticipation, hoping that when we drove by, it’d be open.  His original estimates were June, then October, then November, but hallelujah, Giacomo’s Springdale Market is now open for business.  It’s in the same shopping center as Sherwin Williams and close to Vinny’s Backyard Grill and Dairy Inn.  We plan to visit here often to stock up on goods, but we’re especially excited during the nicer months.  We plan to ride our bikes down, pick out ingredients for a meal, then hightail it back home and cook up a storm.  That should cancel out some of those calories. ;)

Here are the vitals on this new Springdale neighborhood market:

• Tons of fresh produce such as apples, pears, lemons, oranges, peppers, tomatoes, onions, fennel, celery, eggplant, herbs, types of lettuce, and lots more.

Italian confections and even Italian cookies.

• Many different varieties of Terra Nova and other breads such as Port Chester’s Neri’s Bakery.

• Fresh deli meats and cheese from Boar’s Head.

• Chicken, beef, sausage, pork, and other meats.

Freshly prepared sides such as giardiniera, fresh water mozzarella, pasta salads, hot cherry peppers, pepperoncini, and a variety of olives.

• Shelves upon shelves of Italian specialties, concentrating on Scalfani goods.

• There’s even a shelf devoted to Goya and other similar products.

Odds and ends like soap, detergent, and your common household goods.

Fresh pasta from Terra Nova with more pasta and fresh meals to go on the way!

Basically, to wrap it up, Jack summed it up when we talked to him in May:  “If you can find it at a supermarket, you’ll probably be able to find it there.”  Well, to check things out, but also as an excuse to buy some goodies, we stocked up on a nice loaf of Terra Nova French bread, some bocconcini that was smooth and oh so good, about a pound of flank steak that we’ve got marinating for tonight, and a tangy-hot giardiniera salad to go with our Israeli couscous tonight.  Oh, and all that came to just about $13…super cheap for great food.

We’ll be back…many, many times.  And, I guess we’ll have to pick up some bacon, eggs, and cheese too just because we’re there. ;)
