Llamas, goats, and piglets, oh my…

Whether you want to take your kid to Stamford Museum & Nature Center or you just want to check out all the cute animals, we’ve got a great weekend event to share with you:  Spring on the Farm Festival

Please mommy, can we see the otters and go to Family Farm Friday?

You otter get to SM&NC!

Weekend!  This two day farm and food party goes from 11-3 pm on both May 17 and May 18 and costs $5 for members or $10 for non-members.  Check out all the cute baby animals and your favorite farm friends, too.  You’ll also be able to see the SM&NC sheep get sheared, then see how that wool becomes felt and yarn.  And, there are a whole lot of other things going on too including “llama trekking” (we don’t know what this is, but we SO need to do this), face painting, crafts, live music, and even a plant and herb sale.  Oh, and…what?  Where’s the food?  Pssshhh, you know we won’t leave ya hanging…

Where maple sugar comes from...and, no, not the stork

Where maple sugar comes from…and, no, not the stork

There’s nothing quite more New Englandy than maple syrup.  Just think about how versatile it is:  put it on your favorite breakfast food, mix it into cocktails, use it for baking, or just free-base the stuff to get it right into your blood stream.  What it comes down to is this:  we purely and wholeheartedly love us some maple syrup.  And, if you’re truly a New Englander and Nutmegger at the core then you love it as much as we do.

Master Mixology and Cocktail Party @ Bistro 7 in Wilton

4 Oct

The Char: bourbon, muddled blackberries, fresh lemon juice, and simple syrup served on the rocks.

1) Open Jose Cuervo Margarita Mix
2) Pour in tequila
3) Add ice
4) Serve on the rocks or blend
Everybody knows this is how you make the perfect margarita…right?  Look, there’s a mix or artificial flavor packet for almost any drink you could imagine!  But that doesn’t make it great…or even drinkable.  What makes a cocktail good is finesse, detail, attention, and help from a moustached hipster.

Harbor Brew Fest 9/28 2013 Bridgeport CT

Beer beer beer beer,

Harry’s is not only a sponsor of this great event, but Renzo (beer god extraordinaire) helps get all the breweries there!  We love Harry’s!

Ah, such lovely songs have never been heard before.  And, chances are, you’ll be singing beer’s praise quite a bit at the 2nd Annual Harbor Brew Fest at Harbor Yard in Bridgeport.  While the event isn’t happening until September 28 from 12-5, tickets are going on sale next Friday, 6/21.  Get your tickets fast because last year’s event sold out part of the way through the event, and you’ll definitely want to get your hands on one of the very limited Brewer’s Special tickets (see the ticket descriptions below).  See, now that’s why you need to get yourself in gear and make sure to get your tix right away on the 21st.  Now, let’s go through why this year’s event is going to be even better and more successful than last year’s:

Hot outta the oven…Dishcrawl Stamford is official and is ready to go!  Yes, the successful start-up that began in New Haven, then worked its way down to Greenwich has set up in Stamford!  Their inaugural event is on May 29 at 7 pm and costs just $45 (buy the tickets here).  That gets you food tastings at four different awesome Stamford restaurants.  If you’re not familiar with Dishcrawl (if you’ve been following us, you should know this like the back of your hand), let’s tell you some of the basics:

1)  You hit up 4 restaurants in a night.

2) You’re told 48 hours before the event where you’ll meet.

3) The rest of the restaurant crawl is a complete mystery.

4) You get to talk with chefs and owners about their food.

5) You meet great new people.
