Feast on Ridgefield’s Best Food at Taste of Ridgefield to Benefit Ridgefield Rotary

6 Jan
While we focus mainly on Lower Fairfield County, one of our resolutions this year was to get out there, expand, and show more of the great things going on and restaurants throughout Fairfield County.  Well, let’s start things off right with telling you about Taste of Ridgefield, more awsomerest than last year or any of the 13 previous years.  What exactly is Taste of Ridgefield?  28 different awesome restaurants, bakeries, cheese shops, and caterers from the area giving out yummy bites, treats, and drinks until you explode or lose the will to eat anymore.  Tickets are $40 (benefits Ridgefield Rotary Club) if you buy in advance (or $45 at the door) and kids 12 and under cost only $20.  There will be two tasting sessions:  one from 12:30-2:30 and the other  from 4-6 pm.  What’s even better?  It’s on Sunday, 1/27, so you have no excuse not to show up and take part in this awesome culinary event.  If you buy your tickets online, all you’ll have to do is show up at the Ridgefield Community Center on 316 Main Street…no need to print out your ticket.
Here’s the list of all the places that will be providing food:

Yee Haw! Eat for Equity Goes Tex-Mex with Meal to Benefit Domus

4 Jan

Fixin’ to have a great meal, meet new people, have a blast, and help out a local charity?  Of course you are, partner.  When we attended our first Eat for Equity event back in October, we were blown away by how many people showed up, how great the food was, and how much money was raised ($1,078) for Kids in Crisis.  Their second meal focused on vegetarian fare and was heart healthy and raised $1,688 for American Red Cross, directly benefiting those affected by Hurricane Sandy.  This time around, good ol’ fashioned Texan food is the focus with all donations from the night benefiting Domus of Stamford.  Domus fights for the most disadvantaged children in the Stamford area, giving them hope and the help to be successful.

Well, y’all want to mosey on down to Trailblazers Academy, located at 83 Lockwood Avenue in Stamford on 2/2 from 7-10 for heapin’ portions of awesome Texan food.  There’s no cost to get in, but a donation of $15-20 to Domus would be purely awesome.  The meal, like all Eat for Equity events, features fresh and local ingredients whenever possible.  The whole night, also, is put together by Eat for Equity staff and volunteers who want to help by cleaning, cooking, or organizing.  Check out more info with our original post and make sure to register by clicking here.  Now,  here’s the menu, cowpokes:

North Stamford Exchange Club Hosts Food + Wine Tasting at Italian Center to Benefit Local Charities

6 Nov

Been having an incredibly long two weeks and need to just let loose and finally relax?  Sure, we’ve all been on edge, but nothing quite makes things better than some food and wine!  Now, it just so happens that there is a food and wine event going on this Friday, 11/9 from 7-10 at the Italian Center of Stamford.  Really, what are the odds that we began to write this and this event popped up?  Yes, it’s truly amazing.  The 3rd Annual Wine Tasting is brought together by the North Stamford Exchange Club, Giovana’s Wine & Spirits, and local restaurants.  Tickets are $50 per person and can be purchased at Giovana’s Wine & Spirits at 1492 High Ridge Road in Stamford or at the door.  With all the food and wine here at this shindig, you won’t have to go out for a dinner, wait around for your food, and drop down more than a $100 in food and drinks.

Instead, you’ll sample wine from across the world and you’ll taste some of the best food from ’round these here parts.  There will also be a 50/50 drawing, a basket raffle, and a silent auction of sports memorabilia, other products, and gifts.   The proceeds from this event help the North Stamford Exchange Club invest in so many great things:

  • Youth sports programs
  • Student of the year scholarships
  • Female student athlete scholarships
  • Female volleyball and softball city champions
  • Programs for the elderly, hospices, ARI, Stamford Youth Foundation, Turn of River Fire Department, and Belltown Fire Department
  • The Center for the Prevention of Child Abuse (Parenting Skills Center in Stamford)

As for the food, wow…what a great list of restaurants:

Stroll (and Taste) the Tarry Market to Benefit the Greenwich Library – Port Chester, NY

1 Oct

Books and food…ah, the things that fuel Danny’s life.  Part English teacher, part food blogger, part drinker, and part bad-joke-maker.  Sure, that’s lots of different parts, but Danny’s a pretty complex person.

So, taking all these things in to account, you could imagine how happy we both were when Jasmine Posey, training librarian at the Greenwich Library, told us about a special fundraising event at Tarry Market.  Stop by (after you get your tickets of course) October 19 at 7 for a Market Stroll through Mario Batali and Joe Bastaniach’s joint.  You’ll have great wine courtesy of Tarry Wines along with classes from a wine expert, teaching you all about what you’re sipping on.  Now, it wouldn’t be an amazing event without something to pair that wine with.  Don’t worry, there will be charcuterie, cheeses, and crostini along with many great wines.

Station Eats Fights Diabetes with their Ashley Burger in September! New Canaan + Stamford

29 Aug

If you’ve been to Station Eats in Stamford or New Canaan, you know how awesome their burger and shakes of the month are.  Heck, we’ve reviewed a whole bunch of them:  Tres Leches Shake/Cinco de Mayo BurgerCaramel Sea Salt Shake/Bacon Bleu Cheese Burger, Cap’n Crunch Shake/Guinness Chocolate Shake/Buffalo Wing Burger.  The great thing?  You never know what to expect from the great culinary minds that run both joints.

Well, expect something amazing this September at both Station Eats locations.  They’ll be serving up The Ashley Burger as their Burger of the Month.  That’s a veggie burger, lettuce, tomato, guacamole, and black bean corn salsa in between a bun.  Now, the veggie burgers here are legendary.  A couple of years ago we had their older version of the veggie burger and it was great, and we know they’ve made improvements.  People swear by this burger, but we think they’ve taken up a few notches with Ashley’s awesome recipe. Lend a Helping Paw by Eating out Brazilian Style at Rodizio Grill in Stamford, CT

31 Jul

Hey, we’re fans of pets of all shapes and sizes…and food of all shapes and sizes.  Well, the good people at Rodizio Grill and Paws of Norwalk have brought both together.  Stop by Rodizio in Stamford on August 9, from 4-10 pm, and you’ll help raise money for the good cats and dogs of Connecticut.

Just a recap if you haven’t read our amazingly detailed bite-by-bite guide to Rodizio a while back:

Chris, the most awesome gaucho, serves up parmesan sirloin

• Rodizio Grill is a Brazilian steakhouse with flair
• You can order the salad bar that comes with their fun apps
• You can order The Full Rodizio that comes with an endless array of meat, the salad bar, and their fun apps
• Start the parade of meat by flipping your cue over so the green shows on top
• Gauchos will come by with meat upon meat until you flip over to red
• When you surrender and you’re ready for dessert, lay your cue down flat

So, here’s what Rodizio is doing to help:

1) When you get an adult meal, they’ll donate $5 to Paws.

2) When you get a kid’s meal, they’ll donate $2 to Paws.

3) When you get Danny’s favorite drink at Rodizio, the Caipirinha, they’ll donate $3.

Are you impressed?  No bad dog or cat jokes in this entire post!  Guess we’re getting old.

Have you ever been to a Brazilian steakhouse?

What kind of pets do you have at home?  We’ve got a crazy Boston/Jack Russel mix named Maynard and two cats named Marley and Marshall.  Maynard likes to chew lightly on their heads to provoke them into playing.

To Do: Maple Sugar Festival Weekend 2012 at Stamford Museum & Nature Center

24 Feb

Oh divine liquid called maple syrup, we love thee

Update:  and the winner is….

First County Bank is again (12 years) sponsoring the maple syrup utopia that goes down year after year, only this time things are a bit different.  You might remember there was a Chef’s Challenge where local chefs and caterers cooked and baked with maple syrup, then came back a few weeks later for Maple Sugar Sunday for a final face off.  This year both events are taking place on the same weekend!

Yup, Maple Sugar Festival Weekend is just about a week away at Stamford Museum & Nature Center.  If you’d like a preview of what’s to come, check out our past posts on maple syrup comas and our breakdown of Maple Sugar Sunday.  Here are all the syrupy sweet details:

Both Saturday and Sunday, 3/3-3/4, 11-3

$5 for members/$10 for non-members/children 3 and under as well as Family Plus or above=free

• Maple syrup creation demonstrations

Saturday, 3/3/2012, 11-3

• Chef’s Challenge from 11:30-1:30 with the winner announced at 2 (a must see and eat event)

• Local chefs and caterers use maple syrup to make the most awesome recipes for you to taste and vote on:

     EOS Greek Cuisine

     A Dash of Salt

     Susan Kane Catering

Marcia Selden's Beautiful Spread of Maple-goodness

Sunday, 3/4/2012, 11-3

• A yummy pancake brunch featuring SM&NC maple syrup for just $5 per person from 11-2.

This will be another great time for maple syrup lovers, couples, friends, and families to come down and check out why SM&NC is so awesome.  We bought a membership last year, so really think about the benefits.  You get lower entry fees to special events, you get to visit for free during the year, and most importantly you get to help SM&NC to thrive.
