After eating this one, you’ll need to roll over and sleep a bit . . .

7/11 is a lucky combo of numbers, especially because on that day you’ll be able to get the amazing Hotsy breakfast sandwich for just $1. Just stop by any Garden Catering restaurant from opening until 11 and order that Hotsy.

We’re Hotsy for Breakfast Sammies @ Garden Catering = Damn Good Breakfast

29 Mar

It only took us a week after Garden Catering on Hamilton Avenue in Greenwich reopened to get down there for breakfast. Yes, we know they are the home of nuggets, but we are breakfast sandwich fiends (or sammies as we like to call them). In fact, if you had asked us if we’d rather give up our beloved sammies or lunch, we’d say sayonara mid-day meal . . . no one needs you when you can have eggs, bacon, chili, cheese, and in the middle of a big ‘ole doughy roll. Camp Promise Fundraisers at Garden Catering, Palmer’s Market, and More!

9 Mar

Group Shot Camp Promise

You can make a few camper’s summers amazing by buying some flying pigs or just eating out at Garden Catering on 3/17!

It’s that time of year when Camp Promise raises vital funds in Fairfield County to fund their amazing summer camp experience. Basically, Camp Promise holds a camp at 3 Kids Camp in Coventry and for one week campers (of all ages) have a chance to take parts in activities like swimming, canoeing, arts and crafts, yoga, self-defense, dances, and more. These campers, who might have muscular dystrophy or other neuromuscular diseases, get the chance to have a fun summertime experience that they normally would never have!  Continue reading

Local CT Schools, Restaurants + Markets Come Together to Help Camp Promise

25 Feb

Group Shot Camp Promise“Camp Promise is a big treat for me and all the kids and their families. We experience the time of our lives with activities we get to do and a chance to make new friends. The cabins have so much room, the food is good. We have counselors that are almost the same age as us which I like, and they’re very nice. I like that campers and counselors have things in common, like going to college and finding jobs. The fundraising in Stamford is great. We’re so happy that people care about us and keep hope alive for a cure as well” Nicholas, 20, camper at Camp Promise.

If you’ve been with us for a year or two, you might remember that around this time we talk about Camp Promise and all the great things that they do to provide a great camp experience to people with muscular dystrophy and other neuromuscular disorders. Through fundraising, campers are able to attend for free, sometimes getting the chance to do things that they never dreamed of like go to a dance, swim, or play a sport. It’s a great cause and for people in Fairfield County it’s easy to help raise some dinero for this great cause.

Stop by Garden Catering + Other Local Spots to Help Fund Camp Promise + Fight ALS

27 Feb

facebook_1983668792

Time flies…it’s unbelievable to think that this is the third year that we’ve talked to everybody about the Camp Promise fundraiser, organized by our friend James Lacerenza.  Oh, and do you know what else?  Swineus Fugit!  Pigs Fly!  (You like how we worked that in?)

That’s because Garden Catering in Greenwich ( 177 Hamilton Avenue), Old Greenwich ( 185 1/2 Sound Beach Avenue), and Stamford (235 Main Street) are selling Flying Pigs to help raise money for Camp Promise East.  This very worthy organization allows people of all ages who have muscular dystrophy to attend a safe, fun, and interactive summer camp.  Some of these kids and adults who attend have never had a chance to swim, play sports, or rarely get the chance to interact with others in a fun way, so Camp Promise is amazing for them.

Southport Help Line Beers 2013

Southport Brewing Company

Last year we told you about something special that Southport Brewing Company does.  They have a special “Help Line” that you can ask for.  You’ll get to pick any of their house brews, but just for asking for the “Help Line” you’ll be donating .50 to a charity that they have chosen.

The two charities that they are currently collecting for (.25 per beer goes to each charity) goes until the end of June and are near and dear to us.  The first charity is ALS TDI who is working hard to wipe out ALS, also known as Lou Gehrig’s Disease.  According to their site, “Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis is a progressive neurodegenerative disease that leads to paralysis, due to the death of motor neurons in the spinal cord and brain. There is no known cure for the disease…the average patient survives only 2-5 years following diagnosis.”  The second charity is Camp Promise East who hosts a summer camp each year for people of all ages with muscular dystrophy.  The collection of funds for both charities is going on now until the end of June, so if you’re having some SBC brews, remember to ask for the “Help Line.”  You’ll be helping out big time.

Garden Catering

And also Garden Catering of Old Greenwich is helping raise money again, too.  They’ll be donating a portion of their sales to the same two charities on May 22 from 2 to 7 pm.  They’ll be donating 10% of all in-store sales and will donate 20% of all gift card sales.  You know what that means?  Yup!  Plenty of birthday, Christmas, Hanukkah, Halloween, Groundhogs Day, and any other holiday where you get presents for the people you love.  Or, maybe you’ll just hoard them for yourself to make that next trip to Garden Catering a bit easier?

Help Garden Catering Send Campers w/ Muscular Dystrophy to Camp Promise

11 Mar

Chris Ramirez for Garden Catering Norwalk CT

“I love Camp Promise because it gives me a week to hang around other kids with a similar disability and to be independent from my family. I think the work Camp Promise does is awesome!” – Ben (16)

“I like camp because of the interactions with people and the independence I get from my family. I would enjoy an awesome summer full of cool activities.” – Sam (15)

These two campers are talking about Camp Promise, an awesome week long summer camp in Hebron, CT. All campers who go there have muscular dystrophy and are treated to a wicked good time. Counselors provide them with exciting, educational, and entertaining activities that quickly become the highlight of their year. Plus, there is no charge at all for them to go to Camp Promise. Now you’re probably wondering how they get to go for free? Well, with help from good people like you, Garden Catering, and the City of Stamford!

Yes, these campers need your help, but it’s easy. Just come by Garden Catering on Main Street in Stamford on 3/15 (that’s officially Stamford Against Dystrophy Day) when 10% of all purchases go to Camp Promise. In addition to their killer specials, sandwiches, and meals, they will also be offering up some Irish favorites. We’re talking about freshly cut, lean corned beef boiled with Guinness that’s served with Idaho potatoes, sliced carrots, cabbage, and homemade Irish soda bread for just $10.95 per person.

Nomworthy Bites of Connecticut Food News, Volume 1: Zombies, Dinosaurs, Dogs, Parrots, and Pumpkins

30 Sep

You know, sometimes there’s just so much going on around Fairfield County that there just isn’t enough time for us to create individual posts for each event.  We are just two people, but we want to get the news out and spread the word about openings, deals, discounts, events, and everything else food related.  Yes, we have been updating our Events calendar pretty well, but we think it’ll be easier to check out what’s fresh and fun in the 203 with little nummy and yummy bites of goodness.

Enough chitter chatter, let’s start:

Danbury

On October 6, crawl or limp on over to the 1st ever Apocalyptic Rocktober Zombiefest at Ives Concert Park.  Entrance is $10 and that gives you access to “killer” live music from Pat Horgan & Thunder Road, food and brews, a zombie beauty contest for men and women, a thriller dance party, a screening of “Night of the Living Dead,” a “silent but deadly auction” (not the sbd you’re thinking of), and even a raffle for a dream vacation for just $10 a pop.

Norwalk

Chef Arik Bensimon’s, formerly of Napa & co in Stamford, has been working hard on opening his next venture:  The Spread.  It’ll be located at 70 N Main Street.  We wish Arik and his associates the best of luck, though with combined skill like that, you don’t need it.  Follow them on FB for updated info.

Pat Pascarella , owner of Cortina Pizzeria (formeraly Pizzeria Rosso) has opened up his dream restaurant, Bar Sugo, at 102 Wall Street in Norwalk.  On the menu?  Six different versions of meatballs, fresh housemade pasta, and lots of small plates such as prosciutto wrapped polenta fries.  Let the noming begin on October 5th!

Answered Prayers: Garden Catering in Norwalk Opening Next Week…with a “Special” Surprise!

19 Jul

You ready for this? Photo by Chris Ramirez

The Good News

Norwalk:  you’ve been good boys and girls and you’ve been saying your prayers.  Now, it’s time to get your reward:  a Garden Catering of your own.  Yes, on 7/24 (this Tuesday) Garden Catering will be open at 314 Westport Avenue in Norwalk!  You know that you’ve been jealous and have often snuck into Old Greenwich, Greenwich, or Stamford just for your nuggets, fries, and cone fix.  Or, you might have even hit them up in Port Chester or Mamaroneck if you were nearby.  So, Norwalk, rejoice, your prayers to the nugget gods have been answered!

The Food

The menu has been trimmed down a bit, just like the Fairfield location.  All your favorites are still on the menu, though.  You’ll be able to have breakfast all the live long day.  You’ll also have some of the greatest things on the earth…The World Famous Specials!  Remember that you can order the specials with either fries, cones, onion rings, mushrooms, zucchini, or with cones and fries.  We recommend cones and fries together!  Here’s a breakdown if you’re a noob or need a refresher course:

THE SPECIAL: 1/2 lb. of 100% white meat chicken nuggets and a portion of fries deep-fried to perfection.  It comes with a free soda or water.  $7

Junior Special –  This is the smaller version of The Special that comes with 1/4 lb. of chicken nuggets and your choice of side.  Remember your free soda or water.  $5

Big Boy Special – Add a 1/4 lb. of chicken to a Special and make it a Big Boy! Comes with an extra portion of Fries & FREE soda or Poland Spring Water.  OmNomivore approved.   9.00

The Boss Special -Don’t try this one alone! A full pound of our famous chicken nuggets with an extra portion of Fries & FREE soda 11.00

Homerun Special -Add chili and cheese to any of the Specials and make it a HOMERUN for only $1.00 more!

Yes, they have wraps too! Photo by Chris Ramirez

So, as you order, make sure that you ask for the seasoning and you get one of the 9 dipping sauces.  Then again, the actually real meat chicken nuggets and fries are usually just great enough by themselves.  There are also other options for you like wraps and salads, so there’s really something for everybody at their new store.

The Restaurant and Community Ties

Although there is limited seating at the Norwalk location, there is a nice counter where you can watch all the action on Westport Avenue.  Yup yup.  New to this location is a wall that will tell hungry eaters all about Garden Catering, its beliefs, and all the great things that they do for the community.  Already, Frank Carpenteri Jr. (who runs GC with his dad Frank Sr. and his sister Tina) and staff have gone around town, handing out gift certificates to lucky people and businesses.  Also, there are already some amazing things in the works for Norwalk.  Garden Catering plans to help out the local schools and The Carver Center.  That’s just how they roll.

A “Special” Surprise on the Way!

To celebrate their opening in Norwalk, Garden Catering is telling all their die hard fans to watch their Facebook page and their Twitter feed.  On Monday, a day before opening, they’ll be announcing a “Special” surprise.  ;)  Don’t ask us what it is…it’s super secret.  You’ll just need to wait and see. :)

Last Thoughts

We love the great things that Garden Catering does for the community.  They also set up a great fundraiser for one of our Facebook friends, James Lacerenza and his cause:  Muscular Dystrophy.  Another thing we love?  Nugget Points!  Don’t forget to sign up so you can earn special rewards like a $10 gift certificate, a free Big Boy Special, a Garden Catering shirt, or even a Garden Catering tie.  We wish Garden Catering lots of luck in their new location, but they won’t need it.  With World Famous Specials like this, there is no need for luck.

Thanks to Frank Jr. for letting us make this awesome announcement!
