Update: register for your free tickets here. Only 48 left as of 9:49 on 1/28.

Think about this word: ignite. It describes a word that shows something that goes from one form to another, something that is transformed by fire and soon engulfed in flames. Now, while Ignite Stamford won’t be lighting anyone or anything on fire at Cask Republic starting at 7:30 on 2/4, there’s still lots of other things going on like the fire of inspiration, the flames of passion.

Damn son, that’s some crazy symbolism, right? We got more, but we gonna get down to things now. For the first time ever, Ignite is taking place at Cask Republic, one of the busiest and most popular restaurants in Downtown Stamford and a favorite of OmNomCT and Ignite. On that night, 8 people will talk about topics for 5 minutes with 20 slides that auto-advance every 15 seconds. It’s tougher than it seems, believe us.

Todd’s CT Pour Tour, Backyard Foraging, WOOFFING, and More @ Ignite Stamford on May 14

28 Apr

Ignite Stamford is back with 8 great speakers for their May 14th event at the Stamford Innovation Center!  We’ve written about Ignite before (and were even speakers), but if you don’t remember how it works, here’s a recap:  each speaker creates 20 slides that auto-advance every 15 seconds.  That gives each speaker a mere five minutes to talk about their ideas, passions, and to inspire.  It’s always a great time because you leave feeling happy, inspired, and you can’t help but walk away without making some new friends.  Oh, and did we mention there are snacks and drinks, too?

Now, let’s look into three particular speakers:

Conor Horrigan of Half Full and 11 others to speak at Ignite Stamford #3

23 Jul

If you had 5 minutes to talk about any topic, what would you speak about? Or, better yet…what do you really value?   And, what if during these 5 minutes you had 20 slides that flipped ahead every 15 seconds?   This might seem like a lot of pressure, but this is the formula for Ignite Stamford. While it is tough to pace yourself, trust us, it’s so worth it (see our Ignite Stamford talk here).

We’re talking about 12 great speakers, 12 different topics, 12 big moments of inspiration. And, this coming Ignite Stamford on August 15th (doors open at 6:30, talks begin at 7) is going to be awesome. Not only are three of our friends talking, there are lots of topics that made us buy our tickets right away.  Plus, we’re very excited because they’ve moved over their event to the Ferguson Library and, thus, can hold more people.  As of this morning, there are still 74 tickets left, but this will go quickly and will definitely sell out.

Sam from Craft Butchery, CTMQ, + more to talk at Ignite Stamford #2

2 May

Ignite Stamford #2 is just around the corner on May 9 at 7 pm at the Stamford Innovation Center.  If you’ve been following us for a bit, you might remember that we were one of the speakers at the first event. We really had a blast speaking and loved hearing other people’s stories, too. Here’s how Ignite Stamford works:

  • Speakers will create 20 slides
  • Each slide auto advances ever 15 seconds, making up five quick minutes
  • Any topic is fair game (see the last speaker’s ideas)
  • Stick to the motto: Enlighten us but keep it short

Here are the speakers with their topics and pics from the Ignite Stamford blog.  Check out the full details of the speakers by visiting the Ignite Stamford site.  And, make sure to get your tickets ($11.54) before they are sold out! We’ve put in descriptions of our Twiend (Twitter friend) Kristen, Sam Garwin from Saugatuck Craft Butchery, and CT’s favorite blogger, Steve Wood from Connecticut Museum Quest (he also writes about CT beer, food, and wine).

Rocking an Online Restaurant Review Video from Our Ignite Stamford Talk

11 Mar

On January 31, Ignite Stamford made its triumphant debut at the Stamford Innovation Center.  The premise of all Ignite talks is keep it fun, keep it enlightening, and keep it entertaining…all fit into 20 slides that auto advance every fifteen seconds, making up a five minute speech.  Now, that might seem like it’s not a big deal, but when you’re up there in front of people and those slides advance before you’re ready, you need to think fast!

It just so happened that we had applied to talk at the inaugural event and were accepted.  Our speech, “How to Rock an Online Restaurant Review” took us quite a while to put together, but by the time we were done with it and done practicing, we were very happy with the results.  Oh, and as you watch the video, know that the video didn’t pick up all the laughing too well.  Trust us…people were laughing at our jokes! :)

OmNomCT, Donny Raus, and More to Speak at Inaugural Ignite Stamford Event

18 Jan

Ignite Stamford is something new that has just hit Stamford.  Every other month, a group of 12 people present fun, witty, quirky, inspiring, and potentially geektastic topics.  Here’s the rub:  each presentation is limited to 5 minutes with a series of 20 slides that are on auto-advance every 15 seconds.  Ignite has, well, ignited in about 100 different places across the world because people can’t get enough of learning new things, meeting new people, and having a good time together.  The first Ignite Stamford event will be held on 1/31, starting at 7,  and will be held at Stamford Innovation Center at 175 Atlantic Street.

A call for speakers went out and we thought long and hard about what to speak about, what we could add to Ignite Stamford.  We sat down, brainstormed, and out popped a topic…can you guess what we’ll be talking about?  Yes, correct:  the nuclear physiology of diatomic particles.  Okay, fine…we’re talking about food.

Also appearing will be everybody’s favorite coffee guy:  Donny Raus, owner of Raus Coffee.  You’ve seen him at countless farmers’ markets and have probably seen his coffee in stores.  And, undoubtedly, you’ve had at least one Cold Roman, their signature drink.  He’ll be talking about coffee, but in a different way…”Coffee for Humanity.”

We’re eager to hear him speak and to hear the other presenters.  You’ll definitely want to keep up with Ignite Stamford on FB and their site so that you can learn more about them, see how to apply for the next Ignite Stamford, and to learn more about the speakers below.  Believe it or not, after just two days this event sold out!  But, Meg, RJ, and co. still will have a waiting list up if you’d like to goTickets are $10…dirt cheap when you consider being able to see so many great speakers talk.
