Food Truck Throwdown 2016

Meet the meat masters . . .

Look at these five food trucks and what they are throwing down for today’s Food Truck Throwdown! Honestly, we’re going to have the toughest time judging all these amazing dishes. But, it’s not just about us judging, you also get a vote and say in crowning the People’s Choice champ! It all starts at 4 today at 805 Atlantic Street in Stamford. Tickets are $25 and that gets you a 4-6 oz. sample from each truck plus lots of fun and events. Proceeds from this event will go towards Optimus Health Care who fights to “Improve the overall health of our communities in Bridgeport, Stamford, and Stratford, particularly the medically underserved, by providing preventive, primary care and supplemental health care services along with health education in a culturally sensitive manner regardless of ones’ ability to pay.”

See you there, we’ll be stopping by around 6. If you see us, please say hi! For more info about this event, check out our original post.

Lobstercraft Kitchen rocks lobster with their new menu! Darien, CT

9 Feb

Back in June of 2012 when we broke the news about the Lobstercraft food truck coming to Fairfield County, lobster fanatics across Fairfield County and beyond went crazy! In the years that followed, their killer good lobster rolls and other deliciousness like lobster and kielbasa mac & cheese packed full of claw meat brought them a TON of success. So much in fact, they had to get a second truck just to keep up with all the festivals, events, and whatnot. Then that did so well they opened up a brick and mortar shop right in Darien (and even another permanent spot at 1 Penn Plaza).

We went once a few months back and were invited recently by Captain Mike, Trond, and the crew to try out some of the new items on the menu. While people love their classic food truck items, we were happy to see they were adding some fun new items to keep people interested and wanting to come in again and again.

Lobstercraft Expands w/ 2nd Truck and Online Food Truck Locator

31 Mar

Try as we might, we have yet to find a better lobster roll in Fairfield County than off of the Lobstercraft food truck.  The roll to lobster meat ratio is just right…plus, we love all the options that you can get.  You can get the old-fashioned purist Coastal that’s made with just butter and seasoning, or kick it up a few notches with the Heat Wave that features a habanero infused butter.  And, yes, the Surf & Turf should be ordered every time you see that special on the menu.

Now SoNo Marketplace Has Some Balls

23 Nov

Sorry, those jokes never get old…

But, in all seriousness, Mike DiStassio and crew have expanded their The Local Meatball food truck venture into SoNo Marketplace!  They’ll be offering up their awesome meatballs to everybody who comes by until the end of the year (maybe longer, too?), so definitely head on over and check them out.  And, just like Lobstercraft who just opened up a spot at SoNo Marketplace, they’ll still be around town, at parties, and available for events…don’t worry!  While you’re there, check out the great beer and drink options and chill out.  Also, because holidays are coming, there’s lots of fun artisan and food shops here where you can find your perfect gift and ingredients and meats for a killer meal.  Just saying…

Food Truck Rally in Stamford to Benefit The Food Bank of Lower Fairfield County

18 Nov

Cancel your ho-hum, humdrum lunch plans for Wednesday, 11/20…there’s a food truck rally happening!  We’re talking about Connecticut’s favorite lobster rolls from Lobstercraft, the Serious Balls of The Local Meatball, the Caribbean flare of Maddy’s Food Truck, and the ooey gooeyness of the awesome Melt Mobile.

They’ll be hanging out at Harbor Point Circle (that’s the circle in front of The Beer Garden) from 11:30-2 pm, selling lunches and giving back a portion of their sales to The Food Bank of Lower Fairfield County.  Both Lobstercraft and Melt Mobile will be giving 10% of all sales, while Maddy’s and The Local Meatball will donate 10% but will kick that up to 20% if they get past $500 in sales.

So, seriously save your lame salad, your boring bologna sandwich, and/or your salt-laden Ramen noodles for another day and get yourself down for a lunch to remember.  Big up to Roxy Waters of Castleton Commodities International for organizing this!

LobsterCraft Cafe claws its way into SoNo Marketplace

30 Oct

Dateline OmNomCT.

June 5, 2012.  A local food blog, OmNomCT, broke the news that a food truck was soon to open that would be serving up fresh lobster rolls.  Later that month, that same food blog tracked down the newly opened food truck, LobsterCraft, at the Rowayton’s Farmers’ Market.  They sampled not one, not two, but three different lobster rolls that Captain Mike Harden and co. had created.  Interesting, they thought, that Captain Mike catches many of the lobsters that he serves off of his own boat.

Little did OmNomCT know (or the rest of Connecticut for that matter) that this was the start of a force that would sweep not only Fairfield County, but the entire Nutmeg state.  Soon, LobsterCraft was showing up at fairs, festivals, breweries, parking lots, and even at people’s houses for parties.  Praise after praise, award after award, Captain Mike and crew grew exponentially week after week

And now LobsterCraft is anchoring itself down (but the truck will still be around, don’t worry) on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays at the SoNo Marketplace with the opening of the LobsterCraft Cafe.  You can expect the same lobster rolls that they are known for such as the LBLT and the Heatwave, their handcrafted coleslaw, the heart-warming lobster bisque that they have also become known for, and more.

The first day that they’ll be open is this Friday, 11/1/13.  Captain Mike Harden reports that the band The Short Bus will be on hand Saturday night to celebrate this addition to SoNo Marketplace.  He was quoted as saying that he was excited about the opening and was happy to see some of the changes that are in store for the SoNo Marketplace such as an expanded bar area and new restaurants.

This has been Dateline OmNomCT reporting.
