Two Roads Brewery Makes National List of Best New Beers in 2014

7 Jan

It’s the beer from Stratford-based Two Roads that had a festival named after it: Road Jam! This seasonal brew became a popular choice of people ready to chill throughout CT and the surrounding states when it was released in 2014. Red in color, a bit jammy in taste, and refreshing all over, their raspberry wheat ale just screams summer drinking. Well, guess people have really been noticing because Two Roads was one of 13 breweries that were given the status of having one of the Best New Beers of 2014 by First We Feast.

Phil Markowski Talks Kriek, Gueuze, Philsamic, Unorthodox + Roadsmary’s “Other” Baby at Two Roads Sourcopia Dinner w/ Chef Plum

2 Roads Sourcopia Dinner Collage

If there’s something that we’ve learned about Two Roads, it’s that when Two Roads does something, they always do it big…and they do it right. Case in point: last night’s Sourcopia paired beer dinner from Chef Plum and the Plum Luv Foods crew. There were five courses of food dreamed up by Chef Plum that he paired with new Two Roads beer, including their three new sours that everybody in attendance got first tastes of. There was Kriek, Gueuze, Philsamic, and two other brews including the soon-to-be year round Unorthodox and a delicious Roadsmary’s “Other” Baby.

The pairings were really spot-on and the courses were spaced out nicely…quite a feat considering what Plum, Chef Kern, and the crew were dealing with. They were there, hours before, setting up a make-shift kitchen in the side room where you normally go to get growler fills. Our favorite courses were the sashimi tuna, the Surf and Turf, and of course the pork belly and our favorite brews were Philsamic and Roadsmary’s “Other Baby.” Excellent job, again, Plum and Two Roads.

Beer don’t just make itself, bro…and it ain’t such simple stuff neither.

It’s not like you can just throw some malts and hops into a pot of water and get a killer brew a few minutes later.

So, like most of you out there, we’ll leave the complex process of making beer to the experts.  Speaking of the experts, wanna meet some of them from Two Roads in Stratford?

Two Roads Route of All Evil

This is Alesssss from the Crypt.  Muahahahahahahahaha.

Are we showing our age by understanding the tagline to Two Roads‘ new beer, Route of all Evil?  Yes, we remember watching Tales from the Crypt on HBO and being oddly frightened by the Cryptkeeper.  But, Two Roads’ new brew is nothing to get all nervous and freaked out about.  Again, we’re happy with the name of this beer, just like their last seasonal:  Roadsmary’s Baby.  They are fun, clever, and are good hooks to get you to try the beer.

Beer: Route of all Evil

Brewery:  Two Roads Brewing Company in Stratford, CT

Style:  Black Ale

Color and appearance:  After the pour, there was about an inch of brown foamy head that took a couple of minutes to fizzle down.  As for the color, it’s black.  Not brown, or even brown-black.  Black.

2 Good, 2 Frothy: Two Roads 2 Day Ok2berfest

29 Aug

flyer 8.5 x 11

Damn, Ryan’s fine. Look at those lederhosen! Taken from Two Roads’ FB page.

Everything’s coming up 2’s this September as Two Roads Brewery celebrates their first ever Ok2berfest celebration.  We’re talking Two Roads, two bands, two Oktoberfest style beers from Phil Markowski, and two days of action packed madness.  Let’s start with just the basic details:  the when.  We’re talking September 21 or September 22 from 12-6:30…or both days.  Hey, we won’t judge.  Tickets for Ok2berfest are just $15 and that gets you into the doors, gets you some live music (Slavic Soul Party on Saturday), gets you some fun games to play, gets you access to some great food trucks, and (most importantly) gets you a German beer stein.  Achtung baby!  That stein’s gonna get heavy after a day of brews!  Oh, and did we mention that Master Brewer Phil Markowski (he was most recently at Southampton Publick House and wrote the book Farmhouse Ales) has two special Oktoberfest beers?  Yes, we did…hmm, must be the six pack of Roadsmary’s Baby talking.

Two Roads Brewery Launches Igor’s Dream with Special Guests Igor and Nikolai Sikorsky

14 Mar

“The work of the individual still remains the spark that moves mankind ahead even more than teamwork” (Igor Sikorsky).

Sikorsky.  That last name is synonymous with achievement and man’s urge to fly into the heavens.  Igor Sikorsky.  Put quite simply, he changed the world, helping to perfect the helicopter and moving the flight industry forward to dazzling heights.  His sparks of brilliance, creativity, and ingenuity lit the way to fuel our dreams.  And, even in 2013, he continues to inspire us…

One person who was particularly inspired was Phil Markowski, brewmaster extraordinaire at Two Roads Brewing Company in Stratford.  Thinking back to Igor’s Russian heritage (he was from Kiev), he decided to create a Russian Imperial Stout…an Unorthodox Imperial Stout:  Igor’s Dream.  We’re talking a Russian Imperial Stout that’s aged in rye whiskey barrels and that tops in at a whopping 10.9% ABV.  Strong, just like Igor, huh?

Igor’s Dream has been poured into 25 ouncers and are being sold for $20.  The bottles will be dated based on their vintage, will be hand numbered, and are corked up, too.  You can buy Igor’s Dream on March 23, starting at 9 am.  There’s a limit to three bottles per person because there are just 1,000 bottles.  So, you can get one for yourself, another for yourself, and one more for yourself.  Maybe if someone was really nice you can consider giving them a bottle…maybe.

But, Two Roads has another amazing surprise in store!  Starting at 10 am, Igor Sikorsky Jr. and Nikolai Sikorsky will be there for the launch of Igor’s Dream and will be autographing bottles and special labels created just for this momentous occasion.  Also, they’ll be speaking about their dad and about the awesome history and future of Sikorsky!

You’ll definitely want to get into the brewery early, get your bottles, then get on line to meet the Sikorsky brothers.
