Coalhouse New England Brewing Dinner Diners

There are lots of surreal moments that we remember. One of the most recent was rolling up to Coalhouse Pizza on Monday and hearing the DJ on 95.9 talk about the dinner we were headed to. WHAT? A shout out to Coalhouse Pizza and New England Brewing coming together to raise vital funds for the Bennett Cancer Center! Hours later, after a sprawling, decadent, and pourworthy dinner, attendees had raised a total of $1,200!

Fairfield County Guide to Pizza and Drinks this Thanksgiving Eve (or any day)

21 Nov

Thanksgiving Eve is not only one of the top 5 busiest day of the year for pizza eating, but it’s also in the top spots of busiest nights to go out for drinks. It makes perfect sense, too. People are packing bags, they are cleaning, and they are even preparing for the holiday feast. Who wants to make another meal in addition to Thanksgiving? Answer? No one. And, lots of people come back home from college and far far away. It’s their time to go out, catch up with old friends, and even make the next day with the in-laws a little more tolerable by getting tipsy.

So, in the spirit of helping out our fellow pizza munchers and drink guzzlers, we’ve put together a list of some of our reader’s favorites spots (mentioned in the description) as well as ours.  Please note, we’re only mentioning if they have pick up or delivery for the purpose of this post, though most of these restaurants do have sit down service.  All pizza opinions are relative, so don’t get too crazy, pizza fascists.  And, we didn’t list just bars…they have to have food, too.  Happy Turkey Day!

23 Oct
Pepe's Pizza at their Danbury location

Which Connecticut pizza joint did we get this pie from? Hint, they are Daily Meal’s #1 pizza joint for 2013!

Because a list of the top 100 pizzas in America isn’t just enough, The Daily Meal set out on a journey across the great ol’ US of A to find the 101 best pizzas.  They did their research, finding local and regional favorites, then contacted pizza shops.  They asked what their most popular pizza was then sent staff out to try the pies then compiled results.  And, after creating such an exhaustive list of pizza joints across the nation, Connecticut captured six (yes, SIX) spots, including two in the top ten and the most coveted first place.  To check out the full list, just click here.

Now, let’s look at the Connecticut pizzas that made the grade:

Stanziato’s Serves Up Killer Pies and More in Danbury, CT

17 Sep

Look who got off their lazy assez (we are using z’s in honor of Matt Stanczak who loves to use them) and headed up to Danbury to not only visit some great friendz, but also check out a restaurant that we’ve been dying to try.  Yeah, that would be uz visiting the house and famed garden of Renato and Alicia Ghio…who we like to call our couple twinz because we have so much awesomenezz in common.  We’ve done a lot of nomming together:  we visited Nicholaz Robertz together, they came for the Victory Brewz N’ Bacon dinner at Coalhouse, we chomped on some wicked Mexican at Panchoz Tacoz in Danbury, so we figured it was about time to take thiz to the next level.

The restaurant we decided that we all needed to hit up together…you guessed it, Stanziato’z!  Kristien’z friend and coworker, Jay, only told us to go like, ooooooh two yearz ago. And, we were reminded again just weekz before when we were sitting next to Matt (the owner) at Chef Bick’z farm-to-table dinner at Hollbrook Farmz.  So that seemed to be the final sign to get our buttz in gear and try it out.  Pluz, it didn’t hurt that Renato and Alicia said they had a gargantuan bottle of Ommegang Three Philosopherz that they needed help with.  Yeah, we’re good friendz like that.

Get your wallet ReAdy for some ReAlly tasty pizza. ReNapoli, Greenwich

23 Jul

DSC_2834

We love discovering new neighborhoods, especially the new restaurants within those new places.  We do have a food blog after all!  One day, a few weeks ago, we went off exploring throughout Greenwich.  Specificallly, we hit up all the parks and beaches to see where our new shiny park passes could get us.  On our way into Tods Point, we discovered Old Greenwich for the first time…home of Garden Catering and ReNapoli to name a few!

Burrata at ReNapoli in Greenwich, CTSo, we took note of ReNapoli, did a little research and decided to give it a shot when we were in the mood for some pizza.  We learned it was BYOB (with no corking fee, FTW) so we grabbed a nice bottle of red and headed straight over.  Now, as we said, we did a little research beforehand and found out just weeks before, pizza maker Bruno DiFabio had teamed up with Bob LeRose of Bobby Q’s to create a pulled pork pizza.  This pizza of legend took top honors and won first place at the Greenwich Town Party.  And, DiFabio himself is quite the legend, tossing his pie into the ring and winning 3 world pizza championships.

Dino Sforza of Via Sforza Opens Dino’s Pizza Pie in Norwalk

15 Feb

Dino's Pizza Pie Norwalk CT

A couple of weeks ago we broke the news that one of our favorite burger joints, Beach Burger had closed.  In its place, we discovered would be a pizza place.  We weren’t sure Norwalk needed another pizza shop in the area, but then we heard from friend of OmNomCT, Joe Sforza.  His dad is opening Dino’s Pizza Pie up on February 18 in that spot and Joe will be the manager.  While some might say it’s another pizza joint, we’ve eaten at Via Sforza and the food is warm, rustic, and authentic Italian.  Dino will be carrying over the quality, recipes, and passion for great Italian flavors to this location.

Think of it is a pizzeria with a heart of classic Italian food.  Here are some of the dishes that you just might want to order:

  • Pizza:  Quattro Stagione  (a classic we had in Rome, literally four seasons) with mooz, sauce, prosciutto, capers, mushrooms, and artichokes
  • Appetizers: Burrata with cucumbers and marinated fresh tomatoes.
  • Salads and Soups:  Fried Calamari Salad with Romaine and hot cherry peppers, dressed in Caesar.
  • Pasta: Cavatelli Nonna with arugula, fresh tomatoes and onions in a light tomato sauce with garlic, topped with shaved ricotta salata.
  • Grinders & wraps:  Sausage, peppers, and onions.  Doesn’t get better or more simple than that!
  • Stromboli & calzone:  They have two standard options to pick from and also have 23 fillings available for you to make your own masterpiece.
