Pho Pun-Free Review of Mecha Noodle Bar in SoNo

10 Feb

We’re going to resist the temptation to make pho puns for this entire review. Why? Because our meal was so fucking good (not PHOking good) that puns just wouldn’t do it justice. Ok, so let’s see if we can do this . . .

Wayyyy back in 2013 when we wrote about Mecha Noodle Bar opening up in Fairfield, we were excited to see Fairfield County’s first devoted ramen bar boiling over with praise and popularity. And, when we shared that they’d be opening up closer to us, in SoNo (where Pasta Nostra used to be), we nearly cried with joy. Continue reading

Chef Mogan Anthony of Locali in New Canaan at his Mura Ramen Pop Up

Chef Mogan Anthony will be taking his Mura Ramen pop-up experience to South End Uncorked in New Canaan!

This has been the week of pop-ups here at OmNomCT with news about [oink] and Chef Plum, so why not add another one? BOOM! This time around it’s Chef Mogan Anthony of Locali in New Canaan who hosts amazing dining series featuring ramen and other dishes as the Mura Ramen Pop-up. How well does he know these dishes? The First Kitchen Opens in Stamford, Offering Bubble Tea, Ramen, Vietnamese + More

29 Oct

Bubble Tea and ramen.  They are pretty rare things when it comes to living here in Fairfield County.  The only places we’ve seen Bubble Tea is NYC, Port Chester, and New Haven.  So, to have a local shop in Stamford that’s pouring this cult concoction is pretty awesome.  Bubble Tea is served cold and is made with iced tea, sweetened milk, different flavorings, and has “pearls” or bubbles made from tapioca.  We’ve never had it before, so we can’t wait to try it out at the brand-new opened The First Kitchen.

While you might not recognize the name The First Kitchen, you might remember the location.  Just a few months ago Saigon Cafe had opened in that spot on 80 Atlantic, offering Stamford some authentic Vietnamese.  Unfortunately, we waited too long to try it out, and now it’s gone, but we have First Kitchen in its place.

Now open: slurp up a storm @ Mecha Noodle Shop in Fairfield, CT!

31 May

Ah. Take a dive into that! Pic from Mecha’s FB page.

Start your slurping engines, kiddos.  Mecha Noodle Shop (from the same owners of the highly rated Pho Vietnam in Danbury) is now serving up ramen in the former Liquid Lunch spot in Fairfield.  Although it’s only a soft-opening this week, you’ll still be able to taste all the great soups and apps that they have prepared.  As for the opening, expect that very soon.  And, when you drink those soups, don’t be afraid to slurp.  In fact, “Slurping Encouraged” is printed on the bottom of their menus.  It’s pretty common in Japan and ramen bars to hear lots of slurping and sloppy noises.  The main reason?  It actually helps to cool the broth down.  See, there’s a reason for everything.
