Your Passport Through Spain’s Vineyards and Food at Barcelona Greenwich this March

10 Feb

Barcelona Greenwich Passport to SpainA few years ago, we went on an extended vacation (thanks to a very nasty hurricane back home) to Barcelona, Spain.  We had a great time exploring the art, culture, and especially the food of Barcelona and wine of the Penedès region.  And, even still, we long for Spain and talk of going back to explore even more.  Well, this is going to be a little bit easier to do this March…and you don’t even need to leave Connecticut.

This is all thanks to Barcelona Greenwich who will be hosting a series of events in March called Passport to Spain.  Each class starts at 7 pm, lasts an hour, and takes you through a different wine region in Spain.  Not only will you learn about (and drink) the wines of Rioja, Galicia, Montsant/Priorat, and Valencia, but you’ll also have some great tapas prepared by Executive Chef Michael Lucente.  Also, as the night goes on you’ll receive some advice and learn how to pair wine with some popular dishes.

Gretchen Thomas of Barcelona Featured in New CIA Video, “Pieces of Passion”

12 Nov

You might not know the name Gretchen Thomas, but we can bet you that you’ve tasted some of her carefully selected wines.  That’s because Gretchen is the master wine guru and manager behind the Barteca Restaurant Group which includes Barcelona and Bartaco restaurants.  Believe it or not, Gretchen is in charge of the nation’s largest Spanish wine list.  Quite impressive!

But, putting that wine list together isn’t easy at all.  It requires Gretchen to travel to vineyards and wine producers throughout Spain and beyond.  And, exactly how expansive is this wine list that Gretchen put together?  According to the Culinary Institute of America, we’re talking about 350 different labels equaling out to over $4 million in sales a year (we can proudly say we’ve helped to contribute towards that).

Spanish Vino + Tapas Tasting Night at Bistro Latino – Greenwich, CT

26 Feb

•••

One of our favorite chefs in the area, Rafael Palomino, has always been a favorite.  Years ago we heard about the amazingness of Sonora in Port Chester, and from that moment onward we were hooked.  We’ve been to four of his restaurants in total, the latest being Bistro Latino in Greenwich.  If you’re looking for great Spanish and Nuevo Latino tapas, this es su lugar…your place.

If you’d like an invite into the world of Chef Palomino’s Spanish style plates, we’ve got the perfect event for you:  Vino & Tapas.  The Spanish wine and tapas tastings begin at 6 pm on 3/12 and will only set you back $39 per person (tips and gratuity not included).  You can expect them to be pouring some of Spain’s most popular wines that will go well with their signature small plate dishes.  The focus for Vino & Tapas will be mixing and mingling, so get ready to schmooze with some serious foodophiles.
