Bourbon, Brews, and Burgers: all about the new Plan B Burger Bar in Stamford, CT

2 Aug

Back in March we told you about Plan B Burger Bar opening up a restaurant in the Stamford Town Center.  Then, you most likely sighed when you saw the opening was sometime in the fall of 2012.  Fall?  No summer without burgers, American craft beers, and bourbon?  Well, sigh no more.  Plan B Burger Bar will be open for business this Saturday, 8/4, starting at 2 pm!

There are lots of things that we’re excited about in terms of Plan B Burger Bar opening up in Stamford.  First of all, the meat they use is never frozen and is ground in the restaurant every day.  Secondly, this beef is Certified Humane which means they are allowed to graze to their four-stomachs’ content, they aren’t fed junk, and they aren’t treated with antibiotics.  Plus, whenever they can, they get food, beer, and more locally.

Look at that beaut! From Press Release.

What else are we gushing over?  Their love, appreciation, and worship of drinks!  To be honest, we don’t know jack about bourbon, so we’re excited to learn more from the servers and bartenders at Plan B.  We do know a helluva lot about craft beer, though, and they’ll have a ton of the good stuff.  Did we mention that there are certified Cicerones (beer sommeliers) who can lead you to that perfect beer time after time?

Plan B Burger Bar isn’t just drinks and burgers, though.  They have a nice menu of American and bar classics that are kicked up a bit and fancy-fied.  You’ve got some organic portabella or truffle fries, lobster rolls or sliders, wings, a bourbon baked brie plate, Beef Wellington bites (Gordon Ramsay would approve), a soup of the day, and 8 different salads.

Now, in terms of looks, this place is gonna scorch it.  It’s right at Stamford Town Center, so they were able to go crazy because there was lots of room.  We’re talking 4,500 square feet!  There’s an outdoor patio, a large bar for those nights out, and of course the dining area that seats 185 people.  There’s also a lounge area if you feel like taking it easy and chilling with some friends with some cocktails, brews, or bourbon.  The lighting is also pretty freaking sick.  Above the bar you’ll find meat hooks that have lights attached to them.  There are tons of other fun touches around the restaurant like a metal bull head statue, a red neon sign that blinks on and off with “Eat, Meat.”  Finishing touch?  The M flickers on and off.  Sick.

So, we’re definitely excited to try out Plan B Burger Bar in Stamford and all they have to offer.  We know that Connecticut loves good burgers, so let’s see what they got.

What do you think?  Have you been to one of the other Plan B Burger Bars?  What did you enjoy or love about your visit?  Dish it out, we wanna know.

EXTREME CLOSE UP! Awwwwww yeahhhh

Update:  along with a name change to Forever Sweet Bakery, you can find the awesome cupcakes and goodies inside their own location in Norwalk!

A few weeks back we stumbled upon the most awesome thing in the mall–if you ask me.  If you ask Kristien, she might have a different favorite due to her shopping obsession, but Sweet Endings Bakery is definitely tied with her favorite stores.  After our last post, Sky Mercede was begging us to come by and try some of the flavors that we didn’t get to try last time.  Well, we did, but the sneak shoved more than just the two cupcakes we selected into our bags.  We told you about the Red Velvet and the Chocolate Mint cupcakes, but dear Omnomivores, there’s so much more there.

• The cookies.  Wow, the cookies.  There are those that love those thick, soft, and almost soggy tasting kind of cookies.  Then, there are those that love and desire after thin and crispy cookies with loads of flavor.  Yeah, Frances Mercede bakes them just right and oh so crispy.  You get a whole stack of them for just $6.25.

Chocolate Celebration, Cinnamon Streusel, and Chocolate Chocolate

• Cinnamon Streusel cupcake.  This is one of their breakfast offerings.  The crumb on top is just perfect.  Not too crispy, not soggy…just right.  When you bite in you get that thick and heavy taste of a streusel, but somehow it remains moist.  A nice touch was the bits of apple worked into the batter.

• The Chocolate Celebration and Chocolate Chocolate cupcakes.  Again, we’re impressed with how moist the cupcakes turn out.  We think one of our favorite parts of the cupcakes has to be the buttercream frosting.  You’ll find yourself eating the cupcakes carefully so that you can be sure to have some of that goodness with each bite.  So many more flavors to try, though.  Oh well, will have to revisit. :)

Look how pretty that bow is. Well, that didn’t last long…

• Cake Pops.  Well, this one surprised us…in a good way.  All we’ve been hearing about on TV is how ridiculously awesome these cake pop things are.  So, we tried Frances’ version.  The cake was moist and even a bit fudgy tasting.  Oh, so good.

For more details about all their awesome treats, custom/party food, and prices, check out their FB page, their site, and our post on them.

Create Your Own Sweet Ending with Forever Sweet Bakery (Sweet Endings Bakery) – Stamford, CT

Update:  along with a name change to Forever Sweet Bakery, you can find the awesome cupcakes and goodies inside their brand new Norwalk location!

Putting quarters in that parking meter at Stamford Town Center won’t seem as annoying anymore.  Believe it or not, you can get some gourmet cupcakes to ease the pain of spending so much or getting stuck with a wife who “has to look for a silver ring for just a second.”  What, that’s a random quote!  Where could I possibly have come up with that?  I digress, but you can get gourmet cupcakes, cookies, and more from Sweet Endings Bakery now.

Sweet Endings Bakery Kiosk in the Stamford Town Center mall

Husband and wife Frances and Sky Mercede opened up shop in the mall on February 1st.  You can find their kiosk on Level 4 by Solstice glasses.  While they both work together and manage the business, Frances is the baker with over 20 years of experience in making her own awesome baked goods.  We even created a handy dandy map, just for you.  Doesn’t get easier than that.  So, let’s go into the awesome details of Sweet Endings Bakery:

Red Velvet and Chocolate Mint Cupcakes

Because we came later in the day on Saturday, the vultures had picked away at more of the variety, but we snagged ourselves Red Velvet and Chocolate Mint cupcakes.  You couldn’t imagine the care we took in bringing these cupcakes back to our house.  We had to make sure the cream wouldn’t smear during the ride because the picture wouldn’t look as good.  After a huge meal at Bar Rosso, we weren’t ready for dessert, but these became our Sunday brunch.  Un.frea.king.be.lieve.able.  First off, Kristien just loved the Red Velvet.  The cake was moist, full of flavor, and the buttercream frosting was amazing.  We actually can say that we haven’t had cream like this because it’s heavier, but we think all cupcake cream should be that way from now on.  Then, I bit into the Chocolate Mint.  Wow.  A strong bite from the mint hits you and, once again, the moist cake just seems to melt away into your mouth.  A nice touch was the chocolate mint on top that added nice contrast with the wonderful cream.  Can’t wait to try all the flavors…

Sweet Endings Bakery Kiosk in the Stamford Town Center mall
