Dina Cheney of Cos Cob Signs Copies of Meatless All Day at Stew Leonard’s Norwalk

You don’t need to go veg only on Meatless Mondays.  How about going meatless any day, any time you want?  That’ll be super easy to do now with Dina Cheney‘s new cookbook, Meatless All Day:  Recipes for Inspired Vegetarian Meals.  So, whether you are vegetarian, vegan, or just want to add a healthier approach to your diet, this is your jam.

The book starts off with Cheney highlighting 45 important “power ingredients” and different cooking techniques that will bring out the flavor in vegetarian food.  From there, Dina takes you through 85 awesome recipes to make the most of your meatless meals.

And, just for you, Stew Leonard’s will have Dina Cheney in their Norwalk store this Saturday, 3/8, from noon until 2 pm.  Not only will she be signing copies of her book ($17.99 that day), but she’ll also be demoing  “Dina’s Mushroom Vegetable Loaf which you can taste on the spot or buy later at Stew’s buffet bar.

Nomworthy Bites of Connecticut Food News, Volume 2: Halloween Happenings, Drinks, Pink, and Breweries

There’s so much going on in Lower Fairfield County over the next few weeks that we needed to get our second volume of food news out to ya.  There are so many things, in fact, you’ll wish that you could clone yourself in order to attend all of these events.  We won’t repeat ourselves for your sake, so if we posted about it already, it won’t be on here.  :P  As always, if you have events, specials, or deals to share, hit us up on Twitter, FB, or e-mail.  

Bridgeport

Barnum Publick House:  Publick Thursdays now at Barnum Publick House!  From 9-11, get $4 drinks and hear DJ Schmidty spin the wheels of fire.  Also, on Halloween, check out their first annual Roaring 20’s Halloween Bash.  There’s no cover charge and you pay only $4 for pumpkin beers all night long.  And, DJ Schmidty is back for some more action, playing your faves.  

Darien

Darien Social has Oktoberfest Ginger Hop going on starting on 10/15.  All you can drink flights of 3 Oktoberfest beers and A Oh the Humanity Flaming Hindenberg Shot and your choice of snitzle, knockwurst, knackwurst, or bratwurst for just $25 per person.

Tokeneke Pumpkin Festival on 10/13 from 10 – 4 pm.  Check out the haunted house, fun rides and games, rock climbing, bouncy castles, and even some fun raffles.  There will also be some good food available from Upper Crust Bakery & Cafe, Heights Pizza, and Burgers, Shakes, & Fries.  The money made from this event will help fund enrichment programs for the Tokeneke Elementary School where the festival takes places.

Go for Gold at Stew Leonard’s Olympics Celebration! CT and NY

Meghan Bell at Stew Leonard’s has become our best friend.  She’s letting us know about the awesome things going down at Stew Leonard’s and their wine shops.  Well, we’ve got some fun events to share with you to get you into that 2012 Olympics spirit.  Unless noted by specific date, the events run from July 27 to August 12.  During that time, Stew Leonard’s will be donating all money from their Stew’s Wishing Wells in Norwalk, Danbury, and Yonkers to the Special Olympics.  So, let’s light this torch up, baby, and start the games!

Drinking Curls

First off, hit up Stew Leonard’s Wines on Friday, July 27 from 4 to 7 pm or Saturday, July 28 from 1-5 for the “Wide World of Spirits.”  Appropriately so, you’ll be able to have drinks from around the world.  Imagine if drinking was an Olympic sport?  Who among you would get the gold?

  • Caipirinha (South America)
  • Il Spr!z (Europe)
  • A sake drink (Asia)
  • Amarula (Africa)

Cheese Slinging

  • July 28-29:  Stew Leonard’s delis will see who takes the gold in terms of cheese.  The contestants?  English, French, Italian, and American cheeses.  Come by, taste, and vote.  The results will be on their FB page on July 30.

Dessert Downing

  • Bakers at Stew Leonard’s will go crazy with cupcakes, cookies, and other desserts using the Olympic rings and the games as inspiration.

Caffeine High Jump

  • They have created a special blend called Stew’s “Olympic Blend” Coffee.  Perk up and see how much you can drink.

International Hot Bar Body(un)building

  • Every day at Norwalk, Newington, and Yonkers you can check out a new country’s cuisine at their hot bar.  This is one competition to unbuild that pretty figure of yours.  That’s okay, it’s worth it.  Nothing an hour or so at the gym can’t cure.

Pizza Tossing

  • At Norwalk and Newington, you can check out Olympics pizzas that are made with peppers, mimicking the Olympic rings.  Salute the flag, then eat it.

Bovine Biathlon 

  • Say hi to Wow the Cow who will be wearing a toga and will be crowned in laurels.  Taking it back, old school style.
