Yes, yes, we know CT peeps are super hardcore about their favorite pies. But with all the big guys like Colony Grill, Pepe’s, Bar, Krust, and Stanziato’s, it’s easy to not even make it out to some of the other amazing pizza shops people are talking about . . . that is, until you luckily stumble upon them while brewery hopping with Dan’s brother and sister-in-law. While Zuppardi’s has been around since 1932 (they started as a bakery but transitioned into a pizzeria in the 1940s) in West Haven, they just recently rolled out their food truck and have been parking it outside of Stony Creek Brewery, which is where we found it. Which Connecticut pizza joint did we get this pie from? Hint, they are Daily Meal’s #1 pizza joint for 2013!
Because a list of the top 100 pizzas in America isn’t just enough, The Daily Meal set out on a journey across the great ol’ US of A to find the 101 best pizzas. They did their research, finding local and regional favorites, then contacted pizza shops. They asked what their most popular pizza was then sent staff out to try the pies then compiled results. And, after creating such an exhaustive list of pizza joints across the nation, Connecticut captured six (yes, SIX) spots, including two in the top ten and the most coveted first place.
