Turkey Tour and Tastings @ 5 CT Breweries w/ CT Beer Trail

30 Oct

We’re almost in November here, boys and girls, and you know what that means…Thanksgiving is on the way.  Yes, the day that we test to see how far our stomachs can stretch out, laden with stuffing, turkey, and mashed potatoes.  It’s a tradition and holiday that is completely American, but the CT Beer Trail (you do follow them, right?) has a new tradition that they are starting this year:  The 1st Annual Turkey Tour.

Thomas Hooker Octoberfest LagerYou’ll meet at Back East Brewing Company in Bloomfield at 11:30 am on 11/30 to begin the day.  You’ll start off by taking a tour and get a tasting of Back East brews.  Like all stops on the Turkey Tour, you’ll be able to fill up growlers at each brewery (and you can down the growlers on the limo bus too).  After the tour and tasting, you’ll load up on the bus (riding in style, boyyy) and head out to Cambridge House Brew Pub in Granby.  You’ll get your tour and tasting, but you’ll also get a complete lunch along with a pint of beer.  When done there, you’ll head out to Thomas Hooker Brewing Co. for another tour, more tastings, and you’ll even get to take home some glassware swag.  After this you’ll check out Olde Burnside Brewing Co. then Broad Brook Brewing Co. for more tours and many many more tastings.  The whole day ends around 7 pm when you’re dropped off at Back East Brewing…where the Turkey Tour began!

Tickets are $90 and, to be honest, it’s the best way to spend the Saturday after Thanksgiving.  Do you really want to be that punk who stays at home all day or gets stuck at the mall with lines that stretch across for miles?  Meh.  Wouldn’t you rather check out 5 CT breweries and drink lots of great local beer?  Yeah, we thought so.

Buy your tickets by clicking here, but don’t hesitate.  Their bus tours sell out pretty quickly.  We warned you.

Farmboys Smokin’ BBQ smokes up Two Roads and Thomas Hooker Breweries

8 Jul

Just some of the BBQ Farmboys cooked up low and slow for Kristien’s Company Picnic

Beer and BBQ.  We’re not really sure if there’s anything that’s much better.  Well, um, maybe one or two things, but even those things are questionably better.  Guess it all depends who you ask.  Anywho, we’ve got to make sure you get down to either Two Roads in Stratford or Thomas Hooker in Bloomfield for some great BBQ from Farmboys Smokin’ BBQ.  We told ya’ll ’bout them in February and they’ve become one of the most popular catering businesses around, going from place to place, party to party with their mobile smoker.  One of those parties happened to be Kristien’s work party and we’re even having Matt and Stacey Lombardo and co. cater Kristien’s birthday bash because we were so impressed with the food.

Stop 1:  July 19 from 5-8 PM

Thomas Hooker Brewery

16 Tobey Road

Bloomfield, CT 06002

Donate just $10 and you’ll get a beer tasting, a tour, a pint glass, and you’ll have access to the awesome ribs, pulled pork, killer smoked mac and cheese, and more from Farmboys!

Stop 2:  August 3 from 1-9 pm

Two Roads Brewing Company

1700 Stratford Ave

Stratford, CT 06615

When you hit up Two Roads, you could spend all your time in the beer garden if you wanted.  Like we reported recently, they have an Airstream that has been converted into an outdoor bar.  So, get some BBQ, get some brews, and just relax outside.  Or, if you want, get some food and just head upstairs to the tasting room and pair that with a pint or their beer tasting.

Brews, Bites, Music, + Tunes @ New Canaan Nature Center Harvest Festival, Nature on Tap

4 Sep

Harvest festivals are a rite of passage for people, especially if you’re growing up in the Northeast.  Usually, you imagine corn, pumpkins, and anything you could find on your Thanksgiving dinner table.  Well, The New Canaan Nature Center has a different kind of harvest festival on tap.  Actually, they are calling their First Annual Harvest Festival “Nature on Tap.”   The festivities are happening on a Saturday (thank you!), 9/29 at two different times:  3-6 pm or 7-10 pm.  So, if you feel like just chilling and enjoying the beautiful day, check out their earlier time.  Or, if you feel like staying out late and drinking the night away, swing by later.

Tickets are for people 21 years or older, $50 in advance or $65 at the door.  Hint, pay for the ticket in advance and save $15.  Yeah, we’re good at math and stuff. :)   Just bring your ID with the name that you paid for tickets with and you’ll get a wristband.  So what will the 50 bucks getcha?
