This trinity of beer will make you feel all tingly inside. Picture from Black Hog’s FB page.

One of the major success stories for CT beer in 2014 was Black Hog Brewery, opened up over the summer in Oxford. Part of their overwhelming success came from the people behind the brewery: Jason and Tom Sobocinski from Caseus and Tyler Jones, former brewer at Portsmouth Brewpub. The other reason, we believe, they became so popular was the arsenal of brews that they released. They started with one of our favorite brews of the year, Ginga’ Ninja, and lots of other great brews like their S.W.A.G., Easy Rye’ Da, and Granola Brown Ale. Soon after these came out, though, they were off adding seasonal beers like their Strawberry Gose and special releases called The Hop Collective that feature one strain of hops.

Bacchus is our kinda dude. See, he’s the god who’s behind all the food, drinking, and general decadent merriment that we celebrate. Hell, without him, we’d have no blog. Would you care about us if we only wrote about eating rice cakes or salads?

“Hey Julia, did you hear about that new blog that reviews the best rice cakes in Fairfield County?”

“Um, yeah, I have them on my favorites! They are OmNomInModerationCT, right?”

Hell no.

Black Hog Brewery: The Sobocinski Bros and Tyler Jones Go Hog Wild – Oxford, CT

1 May
Yes, please...

Amen.

Black Hog, a nickname for the Berkshire pig…arguably one of the best tasting meats around.  The name conjures up pig roasts, people coming together as a community, and celebrating over some brews.  “The slower and the lower, the better it is for cooking Berkshire pig.  I’ve had pig roasts for both of my kids birthdays.  They are respectful because we use the whole animal and it’s communal.  That theme, that idea of community and celebration…that’s what we want to propagate,” proudly shared Jason Sobocinski, one of the owners of the brand new Black Hog Brewing Co. that is opening up this summer in Oxford.  Also, with an equal part in the brewery is Jason’s brother Tom who owns Caseus with Jason and Headbrewer Tyler Jones.

We had the chance to talk with Jason about Black Hog, Tyler, the brewery itself, their beer, the beer community in CT, and their plans for the future.  So, sit back, sip on a cold one, and check out why we are so damn excited for this brewery.
