One of the biggest struggles of Thanksgiving is finding that right balance between buying food in advance and dealing with other shoppers when you’re running to the store the last minute if you’re lucky enough to have a grocery store open on Turkey Day. But, hey, it’s even easier this year to make a great Thanksgiving feast with a special Westport Farmers’ Market Holiday Market! Come down to Gilbertie’s Herb Gardens (7 Sylvan Lane in Westport) from 10-2 on November 24, and there will be plenty to check out. Continue reading
We walked into Saugatuck Grain & Grape in Westport excited to kick off the Fork It Over event. While it was our first time at this event, we knew if Westport Farmers’ Market was at the helm, we were in for an amazing evening. A crowd had already gathered, conversation bubbled over from the entryway to the side room. Not wanting to waste any time at all, we grabbed our champagne, checked out the amazing liquor and wine variety, and ogled the Negroni cocktails they had aging in barrels. We also had some great conversations with Lori Cochran-Dougall, the Director of Westport Farmers’ Market, and Chef Bill Taibe of LeFarm/The Whelk/Kawa NI, talking about what’s new and delish in the CT food scene. Hardcore Locavore Fork It Over Dining Series this Sunday ft. Matt Storch, Arik Bensimon, Jamie Cooper + Geoff Lazlo20 Jul
Seasons change. The Earth tumbles ahead through fall, winter, spring, then summer. And, as the seasons change, so does the fruit and veggies that pop up magically from farm fields. Some get sold at the farm, some make their way to restaurants, and some are brought to many of the farmers’ markets that dot Connecticut now more than ever. And, at one of the markets, there’s a palpable energy, a strong core of farmers, restaurateurs, chefs, business owners, and fresh–conscious consumers. We are speaking of Westport Farmers’ Market, of course, founded by Paul Newman and Chef Michel Nischan.
Finally, after a tiny hibernation, the Westport Farmers’ Market is back! This not only marks a decade of back to back warm-air markets, but it also highlights their focus on keeping things local. It all began back in June 2006 when Paul Newman and Michel Nischan (he just received a James Beard Award for Humanitarian of the Year last night) started Westport Farmers’ Market.
