Inaugural Zeppoleme Wine Dinner a Wicked Good Time – Port Chester, NY

31 Jan

Lots of Friends at Zeppoleme Dinner

Things don’t get much better in life than having good friends, good food, and good wine all together in one perfect spot.  And that’s exactly how it went down yesterday, 1/30, at Zeppoleme in Port Chester, NY.  This was, perhaps, one of the most fun events that we’ve been to in a long time, so we were very happy and proud to be a part of it.  Let’s take you through each course.  Oh, and if you were one of the bums who missed this event, Zeppoleme plans to have more, so don’t worry!

Hearty Tuscan Tomato Soup at Zeppoleme in Port Chester, NY

The Hearty Tuscan Tomato Soup was excellent, thawing us out nicely.  It was tangy, a tad bit sweet, and had nice chunks of veggies.  Marc and Robert of Zeppoleme paired this with a nicely balanced “Truth or Consequences” Riesling which was so easy going down.

Local Beer, Moonshine, Wine + Coffee Dinner to Celebrate Parallel Post’s 1st Birthday

19 Nov

UPDATE:  the dinner sold out last night!  Sorry if you couldn’t snag a ticket.

There are beer dinners, there are wine dinners, and there are even spirits dinners…but Parallel Post in Trumbull has topped all of that to celebrate their first year in business.  They’ve gone and thrown it all together into one culinary orgy of greatness on 11/20, starting at 6 pm for $65 per person (not including tax and tip).

First we’re talking about a birthday reception with Stratford’s Two Roads Brewing and East Hartford’s Onyx Spirits (first legal moonshine in New England).  Next up is the meal itself…five courses worth paired with wine from Connecticut Distributors.  The meal will be cooked by Chef and Restaurateur Dean James Max, Executive Chef Christopher Molyneux, and Chef de Cuisine Ali Goss.  Finally, wrapping things up, you’ll get to try a cocktail made with Trumbull’s own Shearwater Coffee Roasters that will pair nicely with the dessert options made by Madelyn Rendon.

(Buck) Wild Game and Paired Wine Dinner at Bar Rosso in Stamford

20 Feb

Bar Rosso Game and Wine Dinner

Many restaurants have embraced multi-course menus with wine pairings.  The chefs have a chance to be creative and put together amazing dishes that normally aren’t on the menu.  The sommelier or person in charge of the wine pairing, also gets to go wild, and think about what would make the best flavor combinations.  Even if you’ve been to tons of these great food events, you’ve probably never been to one like Bar Rosso has planned.  Yes sir, they have planned a five course dinner that features wild game and has a thoughtfully chosen glass of wine to go with each.  Their First Annual Wild Game Dinner is behind held on March 6 and starts at 6 pm.  You’ll need to RSVP by 2/27 by e-mailing or calling them up at (203) 388-8640.  Tickets are $120, tax and gratuity are not included.

Let’s go through the menu:

Warm Your Soul at South End with a Paired Wine Dinner – New Canaan, CT

25 Jan

After the closing of Pine Social in New Canaan, we were skeptical if another restaurant coming into that spot would also be successful.  When we saw the menu and got information from South End, though, we began to change our minds.  What finally made us change our minds is actually eating there.  The food was fresh, locally sourced, and the menu was very fun and playful.  For example, the tomato and mozzarella salad was one of the most unique interpretations that we’ve ever tasted with basil gelato and a tomato gelee.  While some people have complained about the menu being confusing, that’s actually one of the things that we liked most about it…it’s like an adventure.

If you haven’t had the chance to check out this New Canaan newcomer (or if you’re a well-seasoned vet), then we’ve got a great chance for you to try out the food.  On February 5, they’ll be hosting a four course wine dinner that will warm up your spirit in the bitter cold of February.  You could even think of this as an early Valentine’s Day present, if you’d like…

“Warm Your Soul” Wine Dinner

Course 1:  Chilled Lobster Salad
