We are huge supporters of farmers’ markets for many reasons. First of all, you help support local farmers and artisans. Secondly, well, the food just tastes better! Thirdly, it’s so much fun to meet people who pour their heart and soul into their living. You know, you’ll be able to find whatever your heart desires at one of these spots: bread, herbs, cookies, cupcakes, lobster rolls, fresh pasta, veggies, fruits, meat and even hot sauce. We thought about putting together a decent list of farmers’ markets in Fairfield County, but we quickly found that info was outdated and had to be hunted down from multiple sites. So, we pulled together a ton of info and put it in a list that we’ll update often, from month to month, year to year, so keep this bookmarked. If you have a farmers’ market that you go to that’s not on here, let us know.

Here’s one more for you: the Presbyterian Church on Bedford Street – more commonly known as the “Fish Church” – is holding a farmers’ market from July-October on Tuesdays from 10-2, starting July 10.

I’m happy to report that the Fish Church farmers’ market was awesome! They had five or six vendors, including Wave Hill, the makers of the world’s greatest bread. The produce vendors had huge selections of fruits and veggies. I loaded upon garlic, scallions, tomatoes, corn and lettuce! My coworker bought some hard-to-find zucchini blossoms, which we stuffed with burratta cheese and olive tapenade at work the next day – yum!
PS: Don’t be jealous, but Melt Mobile is coming to my office complex on Monday!!

Anyone know why they call the Stamford Downtown French Market… French? I’ve gone a few times and it’s always the same 6-7 stands with what appears to be produce purchased at a wholesaler or pre-made products (pickles, bread… that’s it I think). When I think of a French Market, I think lots of stands with vibrant colors and super fresh fruits, veggies, fish, dried meats, eggs, etc.

I think the distinction is exactly as you say, they’re wholesalers and not farmers. I used to go there until I realized my “local produce” was coming out of a Dole box…we grow pineapples in CT?

Searched around on Google for about 10 minutes and couldn’t find any information on what a French market means. :) No clue! :)

Did we ever find out if the Stamford Museum is going to charge admission to go to the market?

They didn’t write back from the FB question. I’ll have to call them and ask. I’ll let you know. :)
