Back in March we told you about Plan B Burger Bar opening up a restaurant in the Stamford Town Center. Then, you most likely sighed when you saw the opening was sometime in the fall of 2012. Fall? No summer without burgers, American craft beers, and bourbon? Well, sigh no more. Plan B Burger Bar will be open for business this Saturday, 8/4, starting at 2 pm!
There are lots of things that we’re excited about in terms of Plan B Burger Bar opening up in Stamford. First of all, the meat they use is never frozen and is ground in the restaurant every day. Secondly, this beef is Certified Humane which means they are allowed to graze to their four-stomachs’ content, they aren’t fed junk, and they aren’t treated with antibiotics. Plus, whenever they can, they get food, beer, and more locally.
What else are we gushing over? Their love, appreciation, and worship of drinks! To be honest, we don’t know jack about bourbon, so we’re excited to learn more from the servers and bartenders at Plan B. We do know a helluva lot about craft beer, though, and they’ll have a ton of the good stuff. Did we mention that there are certified Cicerones (beer sommeliers) who can lead you to that perfect beer time after time?
Plan B Burger Bar isn’t just drinks and burgers, though. They have a nice menu of American and bar classics that are kicked up a bit and fancy-fied. You’ve got some organic portabella or truffle fries, lobster rolls or sliders, wings, a bourbon baked brie plate, Beef Wellington bites (Gordon Ramsay would approve), a soup of the day, and 8 different salads.
Now, in terms of looks, this place is gonna scorch it. It’s right at Stamford Town Center, so they were able to go crazy because there was lots of room. We’re talking 4,500 square feet! There’s an outdoor patio, a large bar for those nights out, and of course the dining area that seats 185 people. There’s also a lounge area if you feel like taking it easy and chilling with some friends with some cocktails, brews, or bourbon. The lighting is also pretty freaking sick. Above the bar you’ll find meat hooks that have lights attached to them. There are tons of other fun touches around the restaurant like a metal bull head statue, a red neon sign that blinks on and off with “Eat, Meat.” Finishing touch? The M flickers on and off. Sick.
So, we’re definitely excited to try out Plan B Burger Bar in Stamford and all they have to offer. We know that Connecticut loves good burgers, so let’s see what they got.
What do you think? Have you been to one of the other Plan B Burger Bars? What did you enjoy or love about your visit? Dish it out, we wanna know.

Were you guys there on Friday night? I didn’t spot you…but maybe the bourbon is to blame for that.

Nope. :) It was our anniversary weekend and we had to skip the invite, though we wanted to go badly. :) We headed out to the Hamptons for some fun. :) You have fun?

It was great! They brought around tons of different app-sized plates like sesame-wasabi sliders; grits, corned beef hash, and an over-hard egg; bleu cheese meatballs(!); and the hands-down favorite at my table, jalapeño mac & cheese! There were also samplings of this deceptively smooth potion known as “bourbon.” I could see an innocent night out turn into a full-blown “what did we do??” when you add bourbon. :)
Napa has a new menu?

Yeah, that place is fun. We got a flight of bourbon when we went. Just yum.
What we meant is that Napa has a new chef, so the food is inspired in a new way. :)

A flight of bourbon sounds awesome…it’s the inevitable hard landing that scares me! :)
PS: Happy anniversary!!

Yeah, it was pretty awesome to do a flight of the good stuff. :) They have three different flights, too, so it’s lots of fun, especially if you’re new to bourbon. :) Thanks for the happy anniversary, you rock. How you been?

Not much new here…just workin’, sleepin’, bloggin’, the usual. I can’t wait to hit Plan B for a full meal, and Olio sounds awesome, too!

Yeah, Plan B and Olio are the two new spots that you’ve gotta hit up. :) We’ve been workin’, sleepin’, and bloggin’ too. :P

We regularly go to the West Hartford & Glastonbury locations. I tend to prefer the WH version, as there’s more nearby, fewer families with small kids. I find that it shares similarities with the original Frank Pepe Pizzeria in New Haven, in that there’s less seating and the food always seems slightly better. That said, Glastonbury has the same menu and solid beer list. Amazingly, I’ve never done the bourbon flight.
I generally try to order a special burger, or foolishly get the Baja burger and sweat for the next 6 hours, almost always with the truffle fries. I’ve never ordered an entree there other than a burger, even though some have looked very good (I go there specifically to satisfy burger cravings).
The bottom line is that I really Plan B, and am probably better off that the Stamford location hadn’t opened when I was down there most of the week. Melt Mobile was temptation enough.

Yeah, it might have taken you much longer to complete your horse if Plan B was opened. :) :) :) We can only say from eating there one night, but the food at Stamford was great. :)
How are things going?

Not too bad, although the ship is need of a rudder (or a more competent captain). We’ll be down your way tomorrow for Grand Summer Night, with dinner at Napa & Co.

Grand Summer Night sounds like an awesome event. We’ve always wanted to go and check it out. Let us know how you like the new food at Napa & Co

Just went there with my family; had the Cubano burger (pork, cheddar, bacon, mustard) on a pretzel bun with disco fries… it was really good, but all in all too much food with the massive plate of Blue Chips we got as an appetizer. Wife really liked the Tavern burger and my 11 year old was full on the kids burgers. Great deal for the quality of the food and service. Only complaint was the sound level of the music, we could barely hear ourselves think, much less converse.

Hey Marc. Yeah, we have to agree…portions are big here. :) We had two apps and our burgers and we were stuffed by the end of our meal. We went towards the end of closing, so they must have brought the sound level down because it was okay. We could see how it gets loud, though.

Burbon burgers are great fun, but sometimes you do not taste the burbon – have one (burbon that is) on the side as well!

hahah, yeah Whitemist. Need to get TWO shots of bourbon. Pour one on the burger, drink the other one. :P

According to their menu, you can only order your burger with “some pink” or “no pink.”
Does that mean you can’t get a rare burger at Plan B? If so, then it can’t be a great place for a burger.
LikeLike
Yeah, guess that means no rare. We’re both medium rare people, so it would probably suffice for us. But, for the diehard, rare people it would be sad.

If they are using high quality fresh beef, why are they afraid of serving a rare burger?

It’s a good question…and one we don’t have an answer for. We’ll have to ask why. We have seen a few burger shops give the same options.
LikeLike
Mitchell, we got your answer after a visit last night: they make very loosely packed burgers. Because it’s not a uniform texture, they need to say pink or no pink because it never cooks the same way or evenly.

I’m a fan of Plan B, whose beef has a soft crumbly texture and flavor unlike any other I’ve tried. Go for the pretzel roll upgrade; skip the onion rings. Good atmosphere and service.

Pretzel roll seems like it will rock it out. :) Thanks so much PigTrip. We’ll have to meet up there sometime.
