Before the uber-successful Black Hog Brewing opened up in Oxford, we had the chance to talk with Jason Sobocinski (one of the owners along with his brother Tom and headbrewer Tyler Jones). We asked where the name Black Hog came from and he shared that it’s another name for the Berkshire pig and invokes memories like pig roasts and events that bring people together.
Well, Black Hog Brewing is bringing that fun vibe in by teaming up with Ken Tuccio from the Welcome to Connecticut Podcast for The 1st Annual Flag Day Cornhole Tournament and Pig Roast.
The Bacchanalian feast and tests of cornhole-ry happens on Sunday, June 14 (Flag Day, duh) from 1-5 right at Black Hog in Oxford. Tickets for this event cost $70 (buy here before tix sell out) and include all of the roasted pig that you can eat, all the Black Hog brews that you can drink, and entry into the cornhole tournament with some major prizes at stake. Like any great event of this magnitude, there’s also a heart to it with proceeds going directly to Connecticut Children’s Medical Center.
We had a chance to talk with Ken about the Flag Day party, and he shared, “There is nothing better than hanging out with friends, enjoying the weather, eating good food, drinking good beer and playing some fun yard games.” Yeah, we’ve gotta agree with him, and speaking of Ken, he’ll be recording segments for a future installment of his W2CT Podcast.
Well, we hope to see you there. As for now, we’ll be breaking out our cornhole, donning wristbands and headbands, and practicing 24/7.
