CT Food News, Vol. 38: Events, Trux, Cocktails, New Menu Items, Beer Releases + More

Believe it or not, OmNomivores, there’s way more than just 8, 9, or 10 things going on in Fairfield County and the state. Nope, it’s more like there’s hundreds of things. And, while we can’t write about every event, every dinner, every brew fest, and every piece of news, we damn well try to give you the best and the most info that’s out there. So, here we go:

Events and Dinners

5/1 The Poutine King food truck will be at Half Full in Stamford from 6-9. Various poutines goes from $7-9 with other options like hot dogs available too. While you’re there you probably want to drink, huh? Simple: $15 gets you all the Half Full that you can handle.

5/1-5/3 Eat at Terra or Mediterraneo in Greenwich and they will donate a portion of their earnings to Greenwich United Way. 

5/2 It’s Mayweather vs. Pacquiao at Sign of the Whale in Stamford! Entry to watch the fight is just $20 and can be reserved by clicking here

The Buzz Truck5/3 Come by Earthplace in Westport from 12-4 to not only check out the birds that they are taking care of and rehabilitating, but to also get some major noms. We’re talking about The Buzz Truck, Bounty Burger, Lobstercraft, Valencia, and Fire Engine Pizza Company food trucks! 

5/5 Check out our listing of Cinco de Mayo events.

5/6 Check out Nick Di Maria at Pies & Pints in Middlebury. He starts 9ish, so get there, drinks some brews, get some food, and just chill the whole damn night. 

5/8 You’ll want to get to Ambler Farm in Wilton for The Art of the Cocktail! Drink some of the newest and best-est cocktails around along with passed hors d’oeuvre, a crepe station, and even a cheese and meat station from Cafe Ruche! Entry is $75 for members or $80 for non-members. 

5/8 Check out one of the best bands in CT at 9 right at The Acoustic Cafe in Black Rock.

5/13 Ignite Stamford is back at Cask Republic in Stamford starting at 7:30. There will be 8 speakers who have quick, 5 minute presentations about various topics such as Jennifer Kruzansky talking about “Sprouting Healthy Students.” Seating is first come, first serve, punks. 

5/13 Cotto Wine Bar & Trattoria in Stamford is hosting a Ridolfi Brunello Wine Dinner with Giuseppe Piras. The dinner starts at 6:30 and costs $75 with tax and tip extra. Get your reservations by calling them at (203) 914-1400. 

5/15 The Easton Farmers Market opens for the season from 9-6.

Restaurant and Food News

Today is the final day to get the Early Bird GA price for Bear’s Smokehouse New England BBQ Championships on 9/5 from 6-10. Tix right now are $53.49 with fees. 

Anthony’s Deli in Stamford has a sandwich that you’ll need to try called The Meat Tornado. It features a 6 oz. burger, a house made meatball, chili, and Asiago cheese on a garlic bread roll. Damn son.

Babaloo Cocina Latina in Wilton (formerly Bistro 7) is now open, serving up Latin American soul food. 

Colony Grill was just voted as one of the best New Haven style-pizza spots by Playboy Magazine

David’s Soundview Catering recently won Best Caterer in a Stamford Plus Magazine poll! Congrats, we love you all! 

Elm Street Diner in Stamford has two new desserts that you’ll want to devour: Nutella Brownie Milkshake and Nutella Baklava. Oh, major noms! 

ECCO Rooftop Eatery and Bar in Bethel has lots of new dishes to celebrate spring. Check out some rooftop eats and sip away on some great cocktails.

Valencia Luncheria in Norwalk now has their sandy beach patio open, so get down there, order some drinks, and pour green sauce on everything freaking thing in sight. 

Last week we told you about Gates Restaurant closing and NewCanaanite.com has the scoop that it will reopen in early September. Chances are that the name will remain the same. 

Beer and Drinks

5/1 Get your ass to Kingsley Tavern in Kent starting at 6 to try out Kent Falls Brewery’s newest brew: Farmer’s Table. It’s a dry hopped table beer and we had the chance to try it earlier in the week. It’s light, it’s refreshing, and it’s the kind of drink that you’ll want to have by your side alllllll spring! 

5/2 Shebeen is celebrating two years with tours, beer, music, prizes, a charity raffle, a book signing, games, and will have Turkey Hut, NoRA Cupcake Company, and Pig Candy on hand. In addition, they are going to have a special Chocolate Cannoli Porter on tap that you just might want to check out. 

Chef Plum Talks Between Courses at the May Dinner Underground Event5/2 Finally, it’s time for Two Roads to release their much anticipated Conntucky Lightnin. Come down to Stratford to get it on draft or purchase it in bottles. Also on tap will be their spring seasonal, Hizzoner Maibock.

5/2 Grab a Hooker and do some yoga starting at 11 am. For $25 you get a yoga session and get to taste some Hooker brews.To get your yoga mat spot, click here.

5/8 Two Roads will be hosting a Nor’yeaster Preview Beer Dinner where you get to try their 4 new brews. The five course meal starts at 6:30 and will be prepared by Chef Plum and the crew of Plum Luv Foods! Tickets are $65 with tax and tip included, so just get a ticket by going here, show up, drink, and eat. Limited seating. 

5/9 Come down to Two Roads for their 2nd Annual Nor’yeaster Bottle Release party. Doors open at 10 (with people lining up way before then undoubtedly) and bottle sales start at noon and go until 2. Each bottle is $10 with a limit of two per style per person. And, what are these beers? Aquavit barrel-aged Unorthodox Russian Imperial Stout, Rye Whiskey barrel-aged Henry’s Farm Double Bock, Rye Whiskey barrel-aged Route of All Evil Black Ale with Ghost, Habanero, and Chipotle peppers, and Road 2 Rouen Franco-Belgian Wild IPA.

5/9 Check out Harmonies & Hops at Black Pond Brews in Danielson from 1-4. Tickets are just $25 each and that gets you unlimited pours from 20 local and Northeast breweries. There will also be live music as the name implies and plenty of food for purchase. 

Overshores is now pouring their Dry Hopped Saison . . . can’t wait to get our grubby little hands on that! 

Lawson’s will soon have Super Session #2 in cans. We’re not exactly sure how liquor stores will treat this, though. Will it be like it is now with Sip of Sunshine where stores only sell single bottles, some at ridiculous mark up prices? 

Spiked Seltzer is now in cans which is perfect if you want to do some day drinking out on the beach! ;) 

Good things are brewing at Veracious Brewing . . . literally! In preparation for their opening, they are making their first batch.
