Chill Out or Chow Down at Mr. Frosty’s – Stamford/Harbor Point, CT

The Gastronomical Trinity: The Magic Potion Milkshake, Chili Cheeseburger, and Fries

When Anthony Luciani told us about his plans to open up a new place in Stamford, were were excited.  When he told us that he was weeks away from finishing we were more excited.  When he told us that Mr. Frosty’s in Stamford was open we couldn’t contain our excitement so we drove down to Harbor Point, mouths open and watering.

Find this sign and look for the building to the back right…that’s Mr. Frosty’s!

Now, it’s a bit hard to find so here are some clues. The addy is 200 Commons Park South, across from 101 Park Place.  Head down Washington and find a place to park by the new Walgreens mini-shop or the parking lot nearby.  When you cross the street you’ll see 101 Park Place, a sign for Commons Park, and what looks like a newsstand.  Except, this ain’t no newsstand, this is Harbor Point’s new heaven for all things breakfast, grub, and ice cream.  Yes, walk on down the path and you’ll see the brand new Mr. Frosty’s!  Around the area is a beautifully lit fountain, a playground, plenty of walls where you can sit, trails, and a table where you can munch on some food and ice cream.

Kristien, deciding what to get. So many great things.

So, it’s just like Mr. Frosty’s in Norwalk:  walk up to the menu, check out what they have to offer, order, then eat.  Here’s a list so you can be prepared:

• Burgers (with a list of toppings)

• Salads

• Hot Dogs

• Chicken

• Sides

• Breakfast (oh yes, they just did make you a complete addict)

• Soft ice cream and sundaes (hard ice cream coming soon)

• Milkshakes and tornadoes

• Seafood of the Day, Shake of the Week, Tornado of the Week, and Today’s Special

Even though it was a soft opening, a steady stream of customers came by on Wednesday.

You feeling us?  It’s the best of both worlds:  the awesomeness of Beach Burger paired with the frosty goodness of Mr. Frosty’s. We got our grub on with a classic burger for Kristien and the Chili Cheeseburger for me.  If you pay close attention, you might notice a slight difference in the taste.  Beach Burger in Norwalk uses a flat grill, but Mr. Frosty’s in Stamford charbroils their burgers.  Anthony is noticing a good difference in the burgers and is a fan of the charbroil grill.  Aside from that, the flavors remain true and carry over nicely from the burgers.  Kristien got a yummy Banana Foster shake and I went crazy with a candy lover’s dream:  The Magic Potion.

Even though it was a soft opening, a steady stream of customers came by on Wednesday.

Be aware that, just for a bit, Mr. Frosty’s in Stamford will only be serving Chocolate, Vanilla, and Swirl soft serve (you can still get all sundaes and shakes) because their freezer to hold their yummy ice cream hasn’t arrived yet.  When that comes in, though, you’ll be able to get ice cream practically any time of the day.  Wake up, feel like a banana split?  They’ll have you covered.  Want a lunch of a root beer float?  They’re there for ya! Want to finish off your dinner with an ice cream?  Well, you know the rest.

So, stop on by and check out the new kid on the block.  Just remember, they are open from March-November and it’s outdoor seating only.  The prices are good, they are open practically the entire day, and there’s something yummy on the menu for everybody.  Here’s to much success, Mr. Frosty’s!

Yours in gorging and Omnoming,

OmNomCT

I had a cheeseburger and fries there today, the burger was outstanding. cooked just right, good flavor, and the meat patty was larger than I expected for the reasonable price. The fries were good, nothing out of this world, but solid. Didnt try the shakes but I will be going back very shortly to try one. The parking is a bit of a problem but im sure it’ll get easier as the condo complexes open. two thumbs up!

Yeah, parking is tough right now, but it should really get better as things expand. Just be lucky you don’t live right there. You’d be eating there every night, huh? :)

I wanted to love this place. I really did. I wanted it to be my new go to spot. I wanted to have this place in my back pocket to take people that have never heard of it. I was pretty disappointed. BURGER: went with the Norwalk burger. Carmelized onions, mushrooms, and gorg. cheese. Shame on me for not adding bacon, cheese, or ketchup. The bun was way to big and took over all the flavor. Also made the burger taste even more dry than it already was. Onions didnt add any flavor. Very little gorg cheese. I saw it but couldn’t taste it. The sheer amount of mushrooms on the burger was ridiculous. Way too many. Ended throwing 3/4 of them out. This burger was old and dry. In fact, I think it had been previously cooked then reheated when I ordered it. No flavor at all and it had these hard things in it that I had to spit out. Not fun. HOT DOG: Got the Coney Island Dog. I thought it was really good. Dog was cooked well. Had cheese, chilli, and red onion on it. The flavors were great. I agree with poster Tim Robb above, the chilli was pretty good. ONION RINGS: Can’t give my opinion of them as they were unedible. They were raw and uncooked. I wish I had noticed before I left the place. I’ll throw them in the oven tonight and cook them and have them with my dinner. DRINK: Ordered a large soda. Literally had 4 or 5 sips and it was gone. Way too much ice.

If I were to go back I’d stick with the hot dogs and try the fries. Will stay away from the burgers. Also need to try the ice cream and shakes. Dessert menu looked good. Overall the prices here are very fair. Had I enjoyed all of my food, would have been extremely happy considering how much I paid. You can eat outside by the fountain or there are few benches. A playground if you bring kids. Parking can be tough.

Hey Joe. That really really sucks. The Beach Burger in Norwalk seems to have it down nicely, but the Mr. frosty’s spot needs to have the same touches. Wish your first experience was better. :( Trying Beach Burger in Norwalk is worth it, though.

Went looking for directions and you guys popped up. Thanks for helping out with the directions. Solid burger at great prices. Chili is really good too. Not as spicy as garden catering or Pats hubba hubba but still really good. I’ll be back.

Hey Tim, glad you liked the food and found Mr. Frosty’s okay. We knew it would be hard to figure out, so we tried to make it clear.

      Go burgers!

Thanks for this great info (found it via Google). We’ve been wanting to check out Harbor Point, and this combo Beach Burger/Mr. Frosty’s seems like a great excuse to do so. Now just have to hope we can avoid the daily thunderstorm so we can sit outside & munch….

Hey Laura, how are ya? You’re welcome, of course! We’re glad that we could help. Harbor Point is definitely in the development stages, but it changes every time we come to visit. You definitely need to check out Mr. Frosty’s when you get the chance. :)

If I told you I was going to the south-end of stamford at 10:00 pm,most people would think I was doing something naughty. Not so anymore, with the new residential and retail developement the south-end vibe has changed for the better.I’ve been to MR.FROSTY twice in the last two weeks, both times for ice cream sundae’s,I must say you get alot for your money.I got the peanut-butter last time I went and it was very good.Soft-serve vanilla, peanut butter sauce, fuge sause, tons of broken up reese peanut butter cups,it was huge. Two people had a hard time finnishing it.Also loved the fountain seatingnext to Mr.F. and the changes to the neighborhood.

Great Darlene! Glad it was daydream worthy! :) :) :) They’ll probably get quicker as time goes on…getting used to the grill, the small space, and the ordering system.

      Next time try a milkshake…yum. :)

They’ve been open for just a few days, so I’m sure things will iron themselves out. Ours didn’t taste old, though. When did you go?
