Celebrate National Pizza Day @ These Fairfield County Pizza Joints

9 Feb

We have a weakness for pizza and we’re sure that you do too. But, it’s hard to say what’s the best part about pizza: the cheese, the toppings, the crust, or maybe it’s all the beer and wings that you have with it? Yeah, we don’t know what we love more. And, we also wonder what’s the right way to order a pie: plain, simple ingredients, or crazy combinations that somehow work? Hey, we don’t have any answers as to what makes the perfect pie for you, but we sure as hell are always ready to explore, try more pies, and see what we like.

To help you out in your quest for pizza glory here in Fairfield County, we decided to put together a list of some of our favorite spots here in honor of National Pizza Day. But, seriously, isn’t every single day National Pizza Day? Let us know your faves by commenting below.

I’m going to say the new Amore has jumped up to some of my favorite pizza in the area. I’ve had five of their pies, and all were great.

Go ahead and keep rubbing it in, Charles! LOL! Man, we really want to get there, STAT. Bruno makes a killer pie!

BTW, if anyone doesn’t know of Letizas Pizza in Norwalk, you are doing yourself a serious disservice. Thin curst heaven. http://www.letiziaspizza.com

“Locali” in New Canaan has the best pizza in town, IMHO. They have a brick oven imported from Italy…But the REAL star of Locali is their cripsy Calamari. Not even served with any dipping sauce (it doesn’t need it). It is truly the BEST fried Calamari we have EVER had (by a large margin).

Hope Pizza in Stamford is my tried and true favorite since I was a kid!

Gravina just opened in Greenwich and their pizza looks amazing! I spoke to them on the phone and the woman said the chef lets the dough sit 48 hours so it’s a very nice, light crust. They sell slices by the pound, gotta check them out one day!

We saw that place, yeah, and actually had tried to get in touch with the owner, but the e-mail addy on the site wasn’t working. But, that’s another spot that’s not too far away from us that we’d love to try. And, pizza by the pound? SICK!

Guys, seriously, no Frank Pepe? There is no better pizza in CT (or may be in US) than Frank Pepe, period.

    • Dan and Kristien Del Ferraro February 9, 2015 at 9:17 am #

We’ve had mixed experiences at Pepe’s. We think it’s good pizza, no doubt, but it’s not our favorite. We know that’s crazy to say, just not completely our style.

Well, I guess it is your loss… :)

Plenty of great pizza spots around to help us make up for not going to Pepe’s. We don’t think it’s bad, it’s just that if we had a choice, we’d pick plenty of other spots before we picked going there. It’s cool though, we all have different kinds of pies that we like. We definitely don’t deny that it’s popular and that people love it.

Just read that Pepe’s is opening a place somewhere in Boston this year, tell your friends in Bean Town!

Hey Steven. We’ve had that pizza and spot on our list for a while, excited to try it all. Like you say, we’ve heard great things. :)

Julian’s brick oven (http://juliansbrickoven.com/Westport.html) in Westport is our fave. The vegetable pizza is LOADED with barely cooked spinach and broccoli plus plenty of ‘shrooms, onions, olives, garlic. No need to order a salad. For any veggie lover, this one is tops!

We’ve heard a lot about Julian’s Brick Oven, yes! Now we definitely have to go and try it out, especially for that pie. Thanks for the suggestion. :)
