Win 2 Tix to Hop Bombs + Farmboys BBQ @ Half Full Rare Beer Night

18 May

Half Full will be pouring out some magic...

One of our favorite times of the month is when Half Full Brewery in Stamford puts on its bi-monthly Rare Beer Night. Each event features 4-5 beers that they have never made before by the brewers at Half Full or some of their guests. This Wednesday will be a great one that you won’t want miss, especially if you love IPAs!

Farmboys Smokin' BBQ logoIt’s the Hop Bombs Rare Beer Night and it starts at 7 pm on 5/20. They’ll be featuring El Dorado IPA, Hull Melon IPA, Polaris IPA, and a surprise beer. Tickets for Hop Bombs cost only $22.09 with tax which is good because the money that you’re gonna save can go towards devouring the awesome BBQ of Farmboys Smokin’ BBQ. How great are these guys? Well, they catered Kristien’s birthday party two years in a row so they’re kind of a big deal. Oh, and if they have their Smoked Mac & Cheese, trust us . . . you need to order it!

Special Half Full Rare Beer Night + My Resolution Bottle Release Party

Half Full Rare Beer Night Resolutions

Mark this, and mark it well: on 1/21/15 Half Full Brewery in Stamford is hosting its first ever Bottle Release Party/Rare Beer Night. Yes, that’s news enough and great enough by itself to see Half Full take the next step in production, but if you remember back to our post last year, you might remember something about these bottles. Rare Beer Night attendees had a chance to try four different beers that the Hoptimists at Half Full would barrel age. By the end of the night, people picked the Scotch Ale and the Half Full staff picked the Barleywine. Then, each person was asked to write one resolution on rice paper then drop it in the barrel where the Scotch Ale would be transferred to. The result was the “My Resolution” ale that has been aging since January 2014.

Mole Stout OmNomCT Collabo + Casa Villa @ Half Full Rare Beer Night

The first stages of the Half Full Mole Stout

The first stages of the Half Full Mole Stout

Patience. Overwhelming, meticulous, and methodical patience. That’s what we discovered Jen Muckerman, Headbrewer at Half Full, has as we brewed a beer together. A serious scientific and orderly mind that moves her to create an arsenal of beer on tap at the brewery and for distribution. And, a nice little side effect was some of that rubbing off on us…yeah, we know: patience is a virtue and stuff.

It all started back at Dinosaur Bar-b-que after the Rare Beer Night on the SoundWaters boat a few months back. Jen said we should do a beer together so we were like…damn right, son! We talked about it for hours and hours. We didn’t want to do a standard kind of beer…it was going to be for Rare Beer Night after all: a monthly event highlighting nanobrews made by Jen, Jon, guest brewers, and the brew crew. Our immediate thought was to make it somehow food based, but still accessible and highly addictive. We settled on creating a dark stout made with typical mole ingredients, inspired by our favorite mole dish at Casa Villa in Stamford, CT.

Half Full Joins the Dark Side + Crowdsources New Barrel-Aged Beer @ Rare Beer Night

Half Full Rare Beer

We went to our first Rare Beer Night at Half Full in July and came back for more last Wednesday, 1/15. And, while we had a great time at the first event, one or two of the limited production brews from their nano system weren’t beers that we’d drink too often because of their hoppiness (different brews for different folks). But, that all changed with this Rare Beer Night.

Half Full Kicks off 2014 with Barreled Barleywine, Rare Beer Night, and Community Pub Run – Stamford, CT

6 Jan

If two of your resolutions for 2014 are to run more and drink more beer, then we’ve got two great events for you that are centered around Stamford’s own Half Full Brewery.

Up first is the Community Pub Run.  Normally the run is just something small that Fleet Feet Sports in Stamford and Half Full put on, but this one’s definitely bigger with a bunch of sponsors like Nike, Fleet Foot Sports, Dinosaur Bar-b-que, Half Full, Pacific, Exhale, Harbor Point, Lululemon Athletic, Flywheel, and Elevate Fitness.  The Community Pub Run (free) begins at 6:30 pm on 1/8 at Dinosaur Bar-b-que.  You’ll go for a nice jaunt through Harbor Point and end back up at the famed finger-licking BBQ joint where there will be raffles, giveaways, and chances to try on some Nike kicks.  And, yes, don’t worry, there will be plenty of food and drinks for everybody.
