Kent Falls Brewing to Headline Beers at the Beach on July 16 – Calf Pasture Beach, Norwalk

12 Jun

Ken Tuccio of Welcome to Connecticut Podcast held his first Beers at the Beach yesterday right at Calf Pasture Beach. It was a nice turnout and there were just enough people to make it feel busy, but not too many to create crazy long lines for beer and food. Speaking of beer, Aaren and Precious from Beer’d were there and brought some friends: Whisker’d Wit, 5.2%; 8 Days a Week, APA, 6%; House Divided, DIPA, 8.4%; and Get to the Choppa, Imperial Amber Ale, 9.1%. It seems that there was a consensus with everyone we talked with about two things:

1) 8 Days a Week was citrusy, bright, and the best of the night.

2) We just liked to say, GET TO THE CHOPPAAAAA!

When we broke the news about Beers at the Beach, the reaction from CT beer lovers was staggering. People were not only excited about a summer time series of beer fests centered around one local brewery that we don’t see too much of in Fairfield County, but also excited to spend some QT at Calf Pasture Beach while nomming on summer classics. And people flipped out, rightfully so, when we shared that Beer’d Brewing would be on hand for the first event on June 11, starting at 6:30.

W2CT Beers at the Beach series kicks off w/ Beer’d Brewing at Calf Pasture Beach

29 Apr

We’re almost in May, so we know what that means: time to think about the beach and time to think about more beer. Okay, so we’ve been thinking about beer all year long, but cut us some slack as we try to riff on this. And to help your love of open air, warm sand, and sipping on brewskis, Ken Tuccio of Welcome to Connecticut Podcast presents a series of summertime events called Beers at the Beach.

When we first shared with you about the Beer’d Brewing Co. of Stonington finally coming to Fairfield County, the interwebs went crazy. Could it be true? The brewery with quite the cult following tucked away at the corner of the state, just around the corner from Rhode Island, would finally be making its way to the 203?

Beer’d Brewing Makes Fairfield County Debut at Coalhouse; More Meet the Brewers Nights Planned

7 Feb

Beer’d Brewing, based out of Stonington, has been on our bucket list of CT breweries for quite a while. The good word on the streets is that they have some of the best beer in the state, but we’ve never even had the chance to try it. Our problem: it takes about 2 hours to get there from Greenwich. We are planning to hit them up in April while we’re hitting up Saybrook Point Inn to check out a food-centric weekend of awesomeness.

Collabo: Beer’d and Relic Brewing Create Nano a Nano

25 Oct

Nano-a-Nano Beer Relic and Beer'd Brewing of Connecticut

Nano a Nano.  It’s a play off the classic phrase, mano a mano:  man to man.  It’s also the name of a brand new beer that has been created by two Connecticut nanobreweries (get it now?) collaborating together.  We’re talking about Beer’d Brewing in Stonington and Relic Brewing in Plainville, creating a Black Belgian Rye IPA.  You’ll find the bottles for sale and on tap throughout Eastern Connecticut, but you’ll also have a chance to try both versions at the Nano a Nano Release Party.

A shot of what Nano a Nano looked like before brewing. From Beer'd Brewing's FB page.

Yes, you heard us right…both versions.  Both Beer’d and Relic created their own versions of Nano a Nano, so it’ll be really interesting to pick up any differences in the brews at Relic on 10/30 from 6-9.  And, guess what?  It’s free!
